A very interesting OS.

I have often thought of a what if scenario, what if Helena was truly innocent? What if Helena was not evil? What if she was true to Magad and Chandra?

The answer is this OS. This is not just the case of Helena, this echos the mind state of all those women in those parts of the world/era where/when/now/then polygamy is/was practiced. It was/is really pathetic and women just become the victims some knowingly and some unknowingly.

Thank you, Alanta. 🤗You just echoed the whole story in one sentence. 👏
The examples of Moora and Daadi's ignorance (or rather the blindness) in recognising Helena's unspoken longing, her hidden pain under the Crown's responsibilities, the Maids gossip of she being an unlucky infertile woman to bless a Child etc. were written, keeping in mind the women who were innocent victims of Polygamy during that period.

I agree with Neetu, shows often makes characters one dimensional, either black or white, which is not always the case of real humans. In the case of this particular show they intentionally made Helena a plain vamp to make the central theme of the show sound more justified and destined. Or else they would have addressed that part too, Chandra's frequent dilemma in between Nandini and Helena; here Helena is not anywhere near Nandini in virtues. That was once even Chandra said that in fact only Nandini deserved to be the chief queen. Yes in the show there is no choice but only one and only one Nandini for Chandra.

But what if Helena someone like in your OS? then it would have been more complex, more interesting, then we would have got a chance to witness some grey characteristics of Nandini too along with Helena's.

It would have been really interesting and a very convincing Love Story of Chandra Nandini, if they had showed both Helena and Nandini, In equal strength. They are both warriors. Both beautiful women in their own respect. Ek Desi. Ek Videshi. Both good in knowledge, royalty and politics. In which case, we could have seen both light, dark and shady sides of both ladies. Then the love story would have had both Spice and Sparks.
I would have preferred to see Helena in something like Rekha's character in the movie Zubeidaa, where her husband falls in love with Karishma Kapoor, but later starts loving and respecting Rekha's timely suggestions and judgement in handling the matters, both family wise and politically. And then, Karishma starts getting jealous of Rekha. It showed the insecurity and jealousy of both women in that movie.

Brilliant thought , beautifully written 😳 Please do come up with more.

Fanbase and Critic are both part and parcel of a Writer's life. We read so many books, so many stories... but we don't like all of them. Very Few become favourites that stick to us for life.

As I wrote in the Author's note, I attempted to give a different angle to Helena's character, a different shade, the other side of her character. It had nothing related to the character being portrayed by Helena, the vamp.

But, I have failed to convince you to imagine a good woman's character in Helena's shoes. So, it's absolutely ok if you don't like the write up. Atleast, I am glad you did not write a sweet post, just because it was your friend's OS. You kept the Friend and Writer separate. And I respect that. Some day I will write something that you like...

I loved your flow of writing ..it is always unique and has an exemplary nature..all the facts reflect the innocence of Helana, which she is not..I cannot come to terms with your idea of Helana..hesitated to write the above review..but in the hope that you will understand me..hence I posted it..writing a negative review is a success to your thoughts..I have much respect and liking for your style..plz understand me dear..I need your friendship as always

Kaku 🤗
You rarely write in my Thread. But when you do... wow !!!! You bring diwali crackers with you 😊

Iam happy that the feelings that I tried to convey through Helena resonated well with you. i just wish you write more often to keep writers like me encouraged. Thank you, for leaving your mark behind and sharing your thoughts.

In our daily soaps, most of the people are so very one dimensional...i hope it changes some day...we as human beings have layers and cannot be put in to certain predesignated slots like the good and the bad...more than the black and white, i feel it is colour grey which defines us all...we all have that colour in us and its time our soaps also start showing the same...

Beautifully said. Very true. None of us are in Black and White. We are all grey. Back in 1990s and early 2000s, when the word Serial meant ONLY 13 EPISODES, the character of each person were very well portrayed. Long Shows started with Ramayan and Mahabharata. They were the culprits.

Later, Shows like Taara came up. But they still showed how a woman starts from a Housewife, reason for taking up Job, her problems in domestic and official life, and the reasons why she starts having extramarital affair with her Boss etc. The shades of Husband, Wife, Boss etc, their emotions, their insecurities, their problems etc, were so beautifully brought out. I just took this Serial as an example. They were other good shows too.
Nowadays, the characters depth, their shades, their inner landscape is totally missing from the Shows. I hope the trend changes soon enough.

I just want to say one thing " The great Chandragupta Maurya, as depicted in this serial is an epic failure as a husband"...he couldn't do justice to any of his wives...!!!!

True.

Our Friendship stands intact, Lalli, despite the difference of opinion.
But then, we have always been on the opposite sides, haven't we ? 😆 We rarely stood on the same side. I keep criticising Rajat's silly boyish acts, and you keep praising him. I praise him for his brilliant portrayal of emotions, and you go what's so great in that? He could do better than that... You cried after reading one of the Chapters in my previous story, but you don't like this story...
We never hesitated in being transparent about what we felt, be it your thread or mine. And it's always been spontaneous. So, what are you afraid of now darling ? Chill girl.

My apologies for very very late response.
The breastfeeding mother and naming ceremony situation which every childless mother used to avoid in India. To dodge unwanted questions. But I have a doubt whether anyone will have guts to oppose Patrani? Will Helen wont eat thei khaleeja? jokes apart. Helen feelings are natural.

Tears of Tiara written from the pov of Helen.
I agree
1. She is neglected of her rights as a wife and daughter in law. No doubt any person if were in her shoes will be more vamp. This reflect her insecurity.
What she has in her life. Her beauty is useless. Helen could not understand why despite being beautiful Chandra does not like her but chooses Nandini over her?
Answer is very simple. The forbidden fruit is always tastier. Helen came on her own to him.He did not struggle to get her hand. But on the contrary he had to wage a war almost 3 times to win Nandini.More struggle, more passion. The simple psychology which made Nandini superior. More than that she was not submissive.Unlike Helen who is desperate to be with him.But even if she had her rights, this CN Helen can never be good. More than that she has been misguided by her mother.

You have compared Helen with Kunti. But I would like to add a small note.Kunti and this CN Helen are not in same dimension. There Kunti though was neglected of all conjugal rights by her husband, she was ardhaangini in all aspects. She was initially quiet jealous of Madri ,but later when they both became mother. She loved her co wife's children more than hers. Helen of this CN can never be equal to Kunti.

Lalli ,I read your comments. I can see she had raised her questions against Helen. But Helen is misguided and desperate . Thanks to her mother. Sometimes, beauty alone cannot win a man's heart. Another culprit is Moora. She should have atleast treated Helen as daughter in law.all these days she was a chamcha for Nandini.

All the best for your future OS.
I think due to inactivity of our friends, many are missing this os. May be you should written quiet before.

Very fresh. Very insightful. Beautifully penned. 👏

I beg to differ on this one, dearie. Kunti, as was depicted in Mahabharata Show, was not that innocent woman. She also had all the typical woman traits - jealous of her both SIL Gandhari and Madri. She also fought for priority of favour against Madri. When Pandu was cursed, she did not share with him that she knew the Mantra for getting a child. But when she came to know that Gandhari was pregnant, she wanted to give birth to child before her. That's when she shared the details with Pandu and got 3 sons. But when Pandu asked her to share the mantra with Madri, she was very unhappy and agreed only reluctantly. When she saw that Madri was smart enough to get 2 children out of 1 mantra through Ashwini brothers, she immediately asked her husband to stop asking for more children. She once asked Arjun to get Airavat elephant from heaven for doing Pooja, when she found out that Gandhari was doing Pooja with metal made elephants.

Both she and Gandhari gave birth to children through unnatural means. But... Gandhari atleast bore the child in her womb, whereas Kunti did not. She was the only one who represented the Pandavas back from forest. She had no support In Palace after Pandu's death and she had lost the Patrani status. It was 5 against 100 children claiming stake at the Throne. If not anything, all of the children were God Given gifts. The trick was to make to all brothers stand together, against the 100 Kaurava clan. Only through love it s possible. You need to practice it before preaching to your children. So, whether she really loved all her children alike, or she did because they were all god given gifts - is something highly questionable and subject to debate.

My Point is... Who gets more children, who gets more priority from husband, who gets more respect from the people - all this was existent in Kunti's life too. She too was a grey character. Which is comparable to Helena's case.
Besides, we know the whole story of Kunti... atleast the popular version, right till her death. But Helena's case - how much she was close to Bindusar when she was CGM wife, when she was Rajmata and whether she really had a son called Justin is still unclear in history. Which is why I left Helena in my OS, wondering whether history will remember her as a Virgin Mother.
Of course, the comparison of Kunti vs Helena cannot be done from all dimensions. It is not wholesome; rather, you can say, Helena is a subset of Kunti.
