Hello Aunty,

Wonderful wonderful take on Rajat's performance and the episodes as well. I loved episode 75, the last scene of it. It was marvellous. There was angst, there was anger, yet there was so much love and longing! I think the scene was beautifully scripted and excellently delivered by the leads as well.

Chandra-Nandini seem to have caught on your Chandra 1 and Chandra 2 pattern as well. They spar one moment, and behave normally another moment. I don't know what to make of their actions. Nowadays, I often get angry with Chandra. As such I don't like this thing of using one wife to get back at the other. Like you, I too wanted to beat him black and blue after he says Nandini could have waited until dawn to leave the palace. Such a jerk he has become. And what to say about Nandini. As much as I pity her, I feel like shaking her up and telling her to get a hold on herself, her life.

Yet this odd couple longs for the other. Even though Chandra feels Nandini loves Malay, nowadays, he still wants his relationship with Nandini to survive, for her to fall in love with him. Even the smallest concern or act of care from Nandini is enough for him to forget and forgo the bitterness. I feel the same with Nandini as well. Any woman would not take this kind of behaviour from her husband, especially accusing her of being promiscuous. But Nandini would be ready to forget all of this if Chandra wants her. These two are are very strange. A case of love wanting to annihilate all the bitterness, all the hurdles. But the hurdles seem so endless. Their attraction for each other runs deep making all the bitterness look inconsequential. But the bitterness is no mirage, it is real, always ready to rush to the surface and ruin the tranquil moments between them.

I sort of like Roopa. Sab ko apne ishaaron pe nancha rahi hain. She is flirting around both the men, and for the first time keeps Malay guessing about Nandini's intentions. However I am quite sure that at the end of this Roopa affair, Malayketu will be forgiven even by Nandini, because everybody would believe that it was Roopa who created the misunderstanding. And we will have to suffer Malayketu all over again.

P.S - In yesterday's episode, I laughed out loud when Chandra told Nandini to address him with samman because he is Magadh Naresh. I wish he did something more about being Magadh Samrat than just loitering around his priya patni.

Hello dear Aunt.
Yes, I turned up out of the blue but as I mentioned a long time ago I tend to do that.

This was such a awesome post...the analogy with the seaside was lovely. ⭐️
My life has been haywire so I catch up with episodes on the net as and when I can.

The more I see Chandra and Nandini, the more I get the feeling that creatives seem to relish keeping both of them as deeply flawed people. Good that no one gets a pedestal here, but seriously, for me, these were not the hero or heroine I envisioned.

I had hoped for a warrior, unmalleable as a mountain, cold as ice and intelligent as his teacher. I see an easily manipulated man with bipolar emotional problems and an atrophied brain. This isnt even a man. This Chandra is a boy going through a late puberty what with all the emotional chaos he cant seem to grasp or control. Seriously, I sympathise with Rajat for playing this character. RT is the only reason why I tolerate such a character. He makes the scenes worth my time. Otherwise, I dont hold much respect for such poorly written characters. Kaise start hua tha Chandra and what they have made out of him!

Forget the actions cuz those are sometimes untolerable, the words this immature jerk slings out for Nandini is apalling! Okay he hates her...because he loves her. But have some class man! Some of his dialogues make me want to wash his mouth with soap! I had though they would keep some standard but yahan toh this boy went from killing her brothers to falling for her like in a jiffy!!! He seems to have forgotten all about the revenge wala hate and jumped straight into the jealousy wala hate. Well atleast he still hates. His enemy wife seems to have abandoned all hate altogether.

Nandini disappoints me. She fell for her brothers' killer/father's enemy this quickly. Okay he helped her get a degree, that qualifies for neutrality but this girl toh gave him her lifetime-wala love! What has the guy done for her that she goes around with the soulful love glistening as tears in her eyes? She cant seem to hate him no matter what the fool does to her! That's frightening! I thought she was supposed to be strong. This Nandini is a complete doormat to her love. Disappointing.

I had thought I would get to see two enemies battling it out with swords and wits in the palace and politics again and again until they each came to admire the other's strengths. I had thought that even then neither would give in but would keep fighting until they both grew attached to each other despite the enmity. I had hoped to see the turmoil in each of them at having feelings for their biggest enemy and doing everything they could to negate the emotions but failing. I had thought to see a lot more but alas...alas...

I wont mention more about the plotline. Its a nightmare. Period.

I now only watch for the good chemistry of the leads, the show's saving grace. Makes even unpalatable scenes worth a glance.

Feel awful that I havent read your earlier posts but my duty hours and studies keep me occupied for a long time. Will drop by some other time.
Take care Aunt. Your posts are more enjoyable and rational that the episodes.

Ankita good to see you here after a long, long while. I agree that the initial promise shown by the promos has been belied in the actual episodes. Perhaps this was always the real story the CVs had in mind. All those promos were mainly shot to lure unsuspecting folks like us with their brilliance.

But when I come to think of it, it is not so bad either. This was always meant to be a love story. In expecting Indian TV to go beyond Mills and Boons Clones and Tropes to rise and elevate itself to the level of a true classic is a high benchmark to attain. We might have to wait for that perhaps!

Even if it is uncompromisingly made our audiences are such that they will not understand or accept it. A look at the TRPs will tell you that. What sort of yucky stuff really reaches the top of the TRP charts! CN somehow satisfies my criteria of what I consider entertaining.

I would watch a love story rather than kitchen politics or regressive shows which pull us back by several decades or in cases centuries in terms of culture and class. I would always prefer a mytho or a historical fiction any day to the mundane reality based unreal shows.

Don't fret, my dear Ankita. It is bad for your health, and I am sure you have enough on your plate already. And don't bother about my earlier posts. They are not homework that needs to be completed!😉

As Shailaja has pointed our perceptively, your kind of Chandragupta, and your take on the kind of development of the Chandra-Nandini relationship, would not have survived a month in this existing TV serial setup.

As for the current characterisation of Chandra and Nandini, perhaps the best and most plausible explanation in the one given by Anne (AJSharma79), which you can see on page 17 above.

It is almost a staple here, the comment that my posts are more enjoyable and rational that the episodes. You must be the umpteenth person saying so, and undoubtedly it is meant as a compliment, for which I am duly grateful. Only it makes me feel like a fool for continuing with these analyses!

I have no notion of quitting this show as at present, f or I have grown to like this lead pair. As and when you are able to drop in on my threads, I shall of course be very pleased to touch base with you again.

If you want a solid, extremely well scripted, and very credibly enacted historical, you should watch Peshwa Bajirao on Sony from 2 days ago. But don't look for glamour of any kind.

Thank you so much, my dear Shreya. But then you are always very warm in your comments on my posts!

Now your take on the way in which Chandra and Nandini react to one another is extremely perceptive.👏 It is essentially the same as that put out by Anne (AJSharma 79) on page 17. Do take a look at it.The similarity is startling; the two of you must be telepathic!

The bitterness would have vanished like a mirage but for two things.

The first, which is in the present, is Roopa. Tonight, for the first time, Chandra confronts Nandini with the "evidence" of the letter that he is convinced she wrote to Malayketu (which Aapama has written and got Roopa to deliver).

I do not know what Nandini proposes to do in response other than whisper Bas, Chandra, bas! But even assuming that she denies it stoutly, he will not believe her, because of the physical evidence of the "Nandini" he saw in the snankaksh, and the reinforcing false confession earlier made to him, very foolishly, by Nandini herself. So Nandini is well and truly in a bind, partly of her own making. This will be sorted out only when Roopa is finally exposed.

The second will be in the future, when Chandra finally kills Padmanand. That is bound to affect Nandini very seriously, unless Avantika, in the meantime, comes clean to her about the true face of her pita maharaj .Or if, as seems to have happened with the historical Dhananand (not Padmanand), he is allowed to retire to the forest. But I do not see this Padmanand settling for any such thing!

As for Chandra doing anything substantial as the Magadha Samrat, that would not be good for the production costs, and the TRPs are none too good as things are, which would not help with the ad rates. Besides, what did Jalal, with far more of documented historical data for the CVs to tap, do anyway, other than supervise harem elections?

After very very long time Malaiketu did something wise, for his own sake, handing over that letter to chandra rather than putting himself in danger or going for another unsuccessful round of flirtation.

Chandra and Nandini are the sun to each other's Icarus. That is all I could think of at the end of the episode today. The inviting warmth of the sun, makes them soar higher and nearer to the very heat that will burn them, and plummet them to the bottom of the sea. The attention that they get from each other during the merciful interludes between each heightening misunderstanding and argument, magnetizes them to each other instantenously after blow-ups.

Ms. Mishchiefs was such a delight in the snankhaksh with her childlike giggles and zeal. Its purpose was to entice Malay, but the poor sap who got stuck in the trap was Chandra. Her girlish demeanor increased his delight when she was talking about the renewed love, and the same demeanor adds to his chagrin when she says that one forbidden word - Malay. His smile when she said I love you, was the sign of the renewed life of his dying love. But alas, with Aapama and Roopa roaming free, how does one smile for long?

He walks away in angst and anger, and stands there letting it runs its course lest he pummel someone to pulp when walks in none other than Malay with the worst of proof in hand. When he said I know what to do, I thought he was going to question Nandini. But no. Instead he decides to take a bath. Ok, honeslty I thought he was going to make her bath with her...hehehehe... he disappointed me until...ehem...ehem... So moving on. I was happy to hear Nandini's inner voice going on with what is wrong, after all he is your husband. I know he is doing it to spite me but I will do it after all'. So again, I was dreaming about some Hindi movie style stuff, where she will try to rub the past and he will swiftly drag her into the water. But ALAS! He drags Katherina Minola reincarnate.

Now I am stupefied with why Helena does not find any of this absurd of humiliating for herself. And her, its ok soon I will have you all for myself is even more bizarre. In all of the exchange, however minimal it was, he never once took his eyes of Nandini. Even as he pulled Helena close his eyes were firmly fixed to Nandini. And this time, Rajat should take a bow (god how many has he had to already?) for confining that fire of hate and anger within the molten lava dripping from his eyes alone. If I was Nandini, I would happily jump off the balcony than stand the intensity of that glare! Yikes. No snarling, no visible gritting of teeth, nothing OTT. Just perfect.

Helena for all her speeches on how she will reign victory is nothing but a stupid blind vamp who has no inkling of what really is happening. Her mom aptly calls her bewakoof . And still she cannot get a single idea despite her mother's exasperation that what happened is not an victory, and there is much more. What a dumb colt. Sigh... I like her a lot at that scene by the lake right after Chandra lost his battle. She was lovely. How did she degrade so much so fast?

For one thing, Dadi is here to stay because she is the glue that is sticking the jodi together through sticky situation. (BTW I would not have paid a dime to that artist...I didn't feel the portrait did justice to them both). Just like he panicked when Nandini fainted, his worry is immediate when she yelps in pain. I loved the part where he came close to her while telling Dadi he came searching for her and now caught her, simultaneously catching her hurt hand. Very nicely done.

The highlight to me was the tone of voice as he applied lep and talking all the time. Again, I congratulate him for not yelling, snarling or just being a total donkey. For a man who said kitne teh' with so less reason, this time instead all that came through was his pain. I am extremely glad that he showed her that letter. Instead of both talking in code languages that the other cannot understand, at least this time some clarity is there. Whether after her bas she will say he has stooped so low to even fake this letter or she will say I am leaving for I cannot bear this insult or pain anymore, I don't know. All I know is that she now should know, on top of Moora seeing her smoking, Chandra watching her going into Malay's room, now Malay is able to produce a letter written by her. Well, of course she can always say Malay faked it - after all Malay told her he will get her after ridding Chandra, so this could be one of his tricks. Whatever it is, it is about time Nandini used the yodha's brain, if any is left after being churned into chutney by her love and figure out what the hell is going on.

I wonder what did Roopa do to that gift.

In the meantime I found this 2 quotes that I think sums up Chandra and Nandini

To Chandra - "Love hurts when it changes us.", Toba Beta, Betelgeuse Incident: Insiden Bait Al-Jauza

To Nandini - "I wanted to punch him and understand him at the same time." Shannon A. Thompson, Take Me Tomorrow
