Episodes 64 & 65: Promise belied
Folks,Since we seem to have strayed into Mills and Boon territory, of the jealous hero and the tearful heroine, I can see why none of you has posted any comment on the last 2 episodes.
In the books the jealous hero and hurting heroine make up romantic-esque narrative. But here it is not only high in OTT but also rather dumb at times I feel. For example, why would Nandini who told him not to marry Chhaya to Malay, during the time when it was high tension between them, giving examples of how he misbehaved with her, would still hold any feelings for Malay? Helena who openly confessed loving Malay can be not in love with him, but Nandini is doomed to love Malay for life? Certainly Chanakya has failed to teach logics to Chandra. Had he been wearing the simple garment i may have feel less annoyed with him. But his ombadu gajam patchwork blanket adds more to my irritation.
I am going to save my energies for my weekend post on this last week's episodes, but I was rather sad that after the wonderful scene on Wednesday night in Episode 63, there was only a minimal follow up in terms of a truncated conversation between Nandini and Chandra which was both pleasing and promising. But suddenly, enter Helena and Aapama, and that was the end of that.
I was waiting and waiting for Aapama to appear, and she comes, and all goes berserk with Chandra's brain. He seem to have easily forgotten the close proximity in which Nandini had to be with him during exams, during which she has never expressed disgust - which to me only can mean she is more than fine to be your wife and not still holing unrequited love for someone else you idiot!!
From then on, the stupid childish drama of Chandra raising his BP over Nandini's supposed love for Malayaketu took over and would not let go. It was tough to decide who, between Helena and Malayaketu, was the more obnoxious and in your face in rubbing Chandra's already red and puffed up nose in it, but they ran each other a close race. And the precap tonight shows that we are nowhere near the end of this nonsense.😡
I hated them both, equally and deeply!
If any man had said to another about the latter's wife what Malay says to Chandra about Nandini, he would have ended up with a black eye and a bleeding lip. But apna Chandra swallows that arrant impertinence without any reaction, and only charges faster than before towards Nandini's rooms. Once he gets there, things go from bad to worse.
Aiyoo, aunty i was pulling out my hair by the time Malay finished his 'concerns' to Chandra. He didnt even turn to look at teh man to express his anger or disgust at what is being said about his wife. When he yelled at her about him only having 2 wives and he doesnt care if Nandini wants to be with Malay... I so badly wish i could rub chili in his mouth. Without trial he had sentenced her? Where the hell has his 'woman are to be respected' teachings gone too? Burned in the fire of fibs Malay and Helena has been stoking? If this was jalal, i woudl not be surprised. Because to start with Jalal was never shown as a fair king or a king who gave a damn about respecting women. But Chandra was not. And this is so not looking good on him
As you all know, I adore Rajat as an actor, and I never tire of pointing out the excellent work he does almost 95% of the time. Tonight, sadly, fell in the last 5 %. Right from the scene where Chanakya comes to berate him over the royal announcement of a pardon for Nand, Chandra huffs and puffs and glares and snarls in a decidedly OTT manner that is not in Rajat's style at all. It does not suit him, and it does nothing for Chandra as a character, to put it mildly.
I dont understand this either. he shoudl have used his creepy cold calm voiced but burning with underlying wrath style rather than going on full blast of his in built amplifiers
I could not understand why Rajat was handling the scene in this hammy fashion, and found no answers. Yes, Chandra is, without realising it more than dimly, blind with jealous rage, and I have no objection to the lines he uses, which actually mean the opposite of what he says. But I could not admire the way in which those lines were delivered. I often used to critique Jalal's bull with head lowered and about to charge stance for expressing fury, instead of the terrifying icy smiles he favoured in the early episodes. I wish the Chandra Nandini director would tell Rajat flat out to stick to the early Jalal, and abandon these kinds of exaggerated facial contortions that are as unnecessary as they are unappealing. Why, Nandini easily comes off the better of the two in that scene!
One must agree, Nandini is getting better ...be it during happiness or otherwise. I liked the way she asked him if he liked the book and she would read to him. Very natural i felt. And also how she replied to his I have only 2 wives crap
I think there is going to be a 3 episode Mahaepisode on Tuesday, if I did not hear it wrong, where Roopa will make her grand entry. For now, seeing that the fake royal announcement has clearly been prepared by Roopa - as Aapama says she saw Nandini - I could not understand why Avantika takes the rap for something she clearly did not do. To save Nandini from Chandra's wrath, or because she is in on the secret of Roopa's existence and her presence in the palace, and she wants to shield her?
I am confused. I remember that Nandini was born outdoors. but there was large group of servants/soldiers around. how is it that being Nandini's twin, Roopa was not brought up in the palace? It cannot be they know she was a retard (most common reason to hid a royal twin) as a new born. I cannot figure out any particular reason why Roopa became a secret.
I think Avantika took the blame because she knew, given the supposed hatred Chandra has for Nandini, the consequence of her being convicted of this crime would be dire.
OK, folks, that is it for now. See you all again soon!
