In any case , I have never given a hoot to what "the forum" whatever that might mean, says, and that has served me well thus far. Whenever I deviate from this rule, the result is not good, a waste of time and/or a rise in my BP.

What gets my goat are threads like Disha's latest - never touching on any good point, but going on and on and on like a bunch of rudaalis. And this very kid, when they were bashing Rajat on similar lines in the early stages of Jodha Akbar, rushed to recruit me to defend him against those hosts, Now she, and a bunch of fellow rudaalis, are doing exactly the same thing those folks did in June 2013. If one dislikes a show so much, one can always quit, instead of inflicting such prolonged laments on the unsuspecting folks like me. I went there to look at it only because she was the topic maker, and I was almost tempted to start taking the whole post apart. But then I realised that it would be a waste of my limited resources of energy, and desisted.

Periyamma... one likes what they like na... that cannot be changed... 😳
I did like this one.. others might not... and it works other way around too...
I guess most are watching for RT (and the historical tag his serials bring)... also, how much ever we pick and praise the good of this serial...I still think JA was overall better made during its initial episodes!😊

You have forgotten one thing about that Helen, she is as nasally challenged as the kid Nandini. 😉And I could not at all make out whom she was supposed to be coddling and hiding in her lap during a thunderstorm - Seleucus being mostly incomprehensible.
😲 Thunderstorm... did the video I watched miss this part?

I shall be covering the Battle of the Hydaspes, the one between Alexander and Porus (that was his Greek name, so why does even Chanakya call him that and not Purushottam?) in great detail in a subsidiary post tomorrow, with some fascinating new historical material.

But for now, why were there no elephants at all shown in Porus' army, when they were a mainstay of his and inflicted huge damages on the Macedonians? An undoubted economy measure!😆

Very interesting, the discrepancies... will wait for it..

Finally, child, why do you all say "filmy" in a pejorative sense? What is this if not an extended film?

If not Filmy, what choice of word would you recommend? 😃

Hello Aunty,

I enjoyed reading this post as well. And I am glad that you partly agreed to my suggestion of a weekly post.

I liked Avantika's outburst. Avantika does love Nandni, just like Nand. We suffer the most when our children suffer for our karmas. And it is only in Nandni's suffering that Nand and Avantika will realise the magnitude of their sins. I too liked Mura's glad-eyed vindictiveness. Looks like she is not going to be like Hamida Bhano, acting like a cheerleader for Nandni. Such a relief !

I really enjoyed your little quip on our persistent efforts to find chemistry 😆. Now I feel chemistry means different things to different people. For me chemistry between Chandra and Nandni is some kind of sizzle. Also, something which makes me want to see the two on screen together, and makes the wait worth it watching them together. It could be when they are fighting, or are angry with each other, hating each other or loving each other or simply standing in the same frame with each other. As of now, I don't feel my version of chemistry when Chandra and Nandni are there together on screen. And mostly because the actress is not doing a great job. In many scenes I don't feel her anger. In fact I always end up feeling that if the shot had prolonged, she would have burst out laughing instead of holding on to her "huffing-puffing teapot on a gas ring😉" expression! And the colour in the retort doesn't matter for chemistry 😉

As of now my heart goes out to Chandra! He is unable to manage one woman, and he is going to be saddled with three of them in the near-future! And no Chanakya neeti, Mahabharata, Ramayana can be of good when it comes to dealing with women

I don't think Shweta is a classical dancer, especially because of the clumsy manner in which she carries herself and her posture😛! And I do feel that dancers do use nuances in their abhinaya, a lot of dialogues keep running in your head when you are emoting. A large part of emoting also comes from the body language and mudras. I don't agree that it is OTT style - you can be very natural and spontaneous in your expressions when you have become the character ,without your expressions looking.or feeling OTT. It doesn't fit into the cinematic schema, because it is a different ball-game.

But I do agree with you that Chanakya and Chandra make a great jodi. The one jodi that I always liked during JA days and stayed long after was Maham-Jalal. I think it will be the same with this Guru-Shishya jodi as well. Beneath that exterior of a tough Guru, is a loving father to Chandra. They have some great plans to execute, and I am eagerly looking forward to them.

As for the Malayketu's deeksha getting completed, Chanakya rusticated him because he didn't stay loyal to his peer (Chandra).

Take care. And eagerly awaiting your post on Wednesday 😊

Beautiful, Shyamala! 👏
This chemistry thing doesn't bother me at all..one usually sees what one is desperate to find, I suppose- so to each his own. I would say the couple looks good together and the actors complement each other..the chemistry is certainly something to watch out for- would leave it at that.

Also, while reading your post I was struck by the obvious fact that the one who behaves like a commoner is the blue blooded one, while the one who has been brought up as a Royal, is in fact the daughter of a common man. What an irony in this fairy tale! Nandini can look down all she want on Chandra's lack of manners- perhaps she would just take it as an extension of the brutality that unleashed itself on her kin...would be quite a journey to Nandini understanding that it is just the crude exterior a king amongst men has acquired, thanks to fate having taken him away from his rightful upbringing. If this is to be so, I am looking forward to it- an eternal romantic here. 😉

Also, this is where this show is so different from JA for me- It s not the tale of ego clashes between two equals. Throw in a powerful personality like Chanakya, who doesn't have the scope to play an annoying MIL equivalent and I hope SP has an epic love story in their hands.👍🏼

Whether Chemistry exists or not, Physics certainly does not in CN.
If it does indeed, then Newton will have to redefine his laws of motion and gravity.

The RT introduction scene was so implausible with his making the spear wheel with a rope or whatever in Rajinikant ishtyle, which would have looked comical on ANY other actor but RT (and ofcourse Rajniklant😆). The Shweta pole vault sans a pole in the sword fight scene was indeed comical. Esp given her height, she did look like a froggie taking a high jump. But the actions in the 10th Episode were truly bizzaire. Chandra takes a straight air dive down with a rope made instantly by twisting green leaves and straw like twigs; but then where from does he gain the required angular momentum to go around all the soldiers and tie them firmly and neatly!😲

The baahubali takeoffs, the use of Urdu words in BC India (Insaniyat ke naathe, shaadi, behroopiya, etc), the direct lifts from JA - nirdosh pashu pakshi saving intro, the reptile dupatta misunderstanding (Agree with Lashy that hope there were no retakes, the slap was solid!😲) the numerous bloopers all notwithstanding, CN last week was worth every minute of watch due to RT's portrayal of Chandra.👍🏼

I never thought that Chandra could look as handsome as Jalal, but he does and younger and fitter too.😳 And from every angle. In babloo's words Chandru looks very ' handmany'. The 8 rings, numerous pearl necklaces, glittering pagdi, embroidered silks were all missing. But even in Saffron costumes, Rudraksha and Holy Ash, RT was as stunning as ever.

And Chandra so different from Jalal. While the latter was effervescent, impulsive, wicked, rakish, yet noble, this one is icy, still (the stillness of a spinning top comparison is perfect.👏), unruffled, devout and noble. A star student who could make a teacher of Chanakya's calibre frequently proud, he looks detatched from the wordly trivialities. Yes. More like a yogi. And his general attitude reminds me of the famous verse of Needhi Neri.

Meivarutham paaraar, Pasi nokkaar, Kan thunjaar
Evvevar Theemaiyum Kollar - Sevvi
Arumaiyum paaaraar, Avamadhippum Kollaar
Karumame Kannaayinaar.

Which means,
He to whom Karm, that is duty is prime, cares not for physical hardships, hunger, sleep, time, evil by others and their criticisms.

And he was picture perfect in the Swayamvar scene. Especially the Humein yeh sambandh sweekar nahin. It was a totally seeti maar scene. The sentence that might have probably hurt Nandini the most, she has never been trifled with or slighted the least. This was a blow to her pride, on which the subsequent killings of her dear father and brothers will probably build an unshakeable hatred towards Chandra.

And Chandra too has a reason to hate Nandini. She has spoilt all his plans of getting his Acharya what he wanted by seeing through his disguise, or rather he thought so as Padmanand declared so. And may be she will inadvertantly foil his plans with Alexander too.

Chandra has a sense of humour which was evident in a couple of scenes with Malayketu and his self-talks regarding the Greek costumes. Given Nandini's penchant for fun, they might strike a chord here.

But just wish he learns to talk less, especially at the most inopportune moments, like his revealing his ideas on Magadh to a daasi and praising Chandra to Alexander. He has this trait of horn-tooting which Chanakya has perhaps overlooked or failed to correct.

Nandini - SBP is pretty and delightful with Kajol-ish bubby-ness. And aunty, I do like her girlish giggles and pranks. It is all fine within family. But yes, I do agree that she ought to have been more circumspect in the Swayamvar Mandap. Here she is not her daddy dearest's darling daughter but a princess. Her reactions were so un-princess like. Also, she looked unsavoury in her male disguise. And thankfully she has not begun to bhaashan yet. I was dreading one just after the bakri ka bachcha save. She also has fluidity of dialogue delivery and expressions that don't look staged. So far so good!😃

I too was shocked with Chetan's entry. Chetan? A student???? And I pray Jalal's begums don't pop up here. I can't stand another round of preaching and screeching. 😲 But the Helena looks like a horrible prospect, looking old enough to be Chandra's badi ammi.😡

Chanakya - I have watched every episode of Ashoka and the 'Rajkumar Sushim' still echoes in my mind, though faintly now after 10 episodes. 😆 But the actor was very good in certain parts, esp the hilltop scene with little Chandra, and the rain scene with the senior. 👍🏼

Last week's posts were all excellent aunty and I learnt 7 new words.😉😆

Question: From where does Chanakya produce the resources to equip Chandragupta, and his necessary retinue, sufficiently grandly for him to be able to pass himself off as Prince Parvathak Malayaketu?

Being a teacher of Princes, he is bound to be paid. And Chanakya well knows that he needs money to fulfill his plans. Else why wouold he waste time on the likes of Malayaketus??

-Apples in the palace gardens at Pataliputra? Must be a fruit grower's paradise!
It was not mentioned apples, just phal. May be they were some red fruits cultivated then.😔

Chandra walks up a vertical wall to do an entirely unnecessary somersault before landing on his feet, which is where he was in the first place!😉

I laughed so much at this line.🤣

Lastly, to top things off, there is the Star Trekkie Amatya Rakshas babbling about the conjunction of the full moon (Chandra, get it?) and the Rohini nakshatra, making it especially auspicious for Nandini, as she was born at an identical conjunction

He is a red Indian chief, CN's Shaguni Bhai and Amatya all rolled into one.🤣

Liquid lightning: What an apt description for RT's Shamsheerbaazi.👏

Yes, my dear Sri, lovely, lovely discussions, but why are you only contributing rudaali style laments to them? Get thee behind me, Cassandra, begone!

One thing for sure Induced /Artificial chemistry goes KAPUT very soon.

Instead it can become Headmistress -Pupil in a matter of weeks.

So this all attitude CGM after a period of few months may lie on the streets of Pataliputra as a Corpse to ward off the sins he will initially commit against Nandini. 😆 😆

I CAN SEE that coming. The more the rigidity now, higher the number of Corpse scenes in FUTURE. 😉

LOVELY lovely Discussions - Will be back soon.

What precisely do we know about BC period gardens? Do we have any manual showing how they looked? Were the Mithila gardens in the latest Ramayana, which was Tretha Yuga, not like these?

Sri, I am duly gratified that you liked my posts so much, but I must tell you that you are fast becoming a carping. perennially discontented onlooker. Chill, my dear!

What I love about CGM is

Akka's writings and RT ( With the radiant face and superb nuances he is bringing in virtually every single scene).

What I dislike or find disconnected is No investments in Character development. And which show have you watched recently which had invested in character development? I cannot think of any in my admittedly brief watching list.

Wish CGM had a good friend . CGM is, as Sandhya has put it with blinding precision, like a yogi. He does not need any friends.

The gardens look 21st Centuryish instead of BC period.

well for me chemistry doesnt mean only when ur attracted or interested towards a girl or guy. chemistry is how easily u can depict a situation as an actor with the other gender. even disinterest can be a chemistry & yes they certainly has chemistry. & im not really a young girl drooling for love stories but i quite liked both the actors in tht scene. yes they didnt had much scenes right now & rightly so bcoz its focusing mainly on cgm's journey so for me its good enough.

Hello Shyamala Aunty...
Just saw the last 2 epis n I just realised what I don't like about Sweta"s Nandini...her GAIT...it's very very 'commoner' type...I think she has not interpreted Nandini's character properly...I had loved her in the promos, but for me, she hasn't delivered as yet.. maybe early days...

N I also just realised what I love about RT's CGM... Everything!!!😎👍🏼(except for his entry n the ottt leap from the tree 😆 to tie the soldiers...chemistry, physics, biology, literature everything was missing there...😆..but RT sure fits CGM's role to the 'T'...

N Malayketu reminds me of Rajesh Khanna in the nineties' films...where he would wear a tight white trouser, a tight bright yellow tshirt, with a notebook in his hand , n ... off to college 😆

N Helena looks like Rajesh Khanna's History lecturer in college 😆

But all in all, enjoying CN...n more so, coming to your threads...

Frankly, i haven't read most of your posts lately, coz I want to relish them at leisure...so will do that next week maybe.. 😃
