I watched it for a week, my dear Khushi, and then abandoned it, for I do not like Mahesh Bhatt's obsession with illegitimacy (though to my mind it is not the kids who are illegitimate but their stupid, irresponsible parents), basically his real life illegitimacy, a topic on which he has been feeding for well over two decades now.

Plus I could not stand the very capable Viraf Patel - he was splendid in Yashraj TV's Kismat - being reduced to this jelly of a man, nor could I fathom the psyche of his ladylove, who is actually getting ready to have a second kid under these circumstances!😡

But if you have made a post there, of course I will read it and give my views. But keep the above in mind, please, when you read them!

My dear Ri,

I never saw such a crisp, funny and very different description of my post before. And very flattering too. Thank you!

I hope you have by now reached your home town and are recovering from the strain of the train journey. As for me, methinks the show is improving over the last 2 episodes, and bids fair to take off next week. Don't worry, you can always catch up with it, and my posts as well.

3 days journey to hometown and stuck inside train and humidity, I will miss these week's episodes. I hope you enjoy Aunty, seems like apart from Ghrina rant and masochst amar prem thingy you liking it.

Of course it says a lot about me, aunty! And for that I am to blame- If a voracious reader like myself could find LOTR, imagine the rest!!! Rowling & pedestrian??? Ah never. But then, you do adore Tolkien. 😉

We all have our favourites, mine is Rowling & you, yours are Tolkien & the Chipmunk gang! :D

By the by, can't wait for Monday to see Rajat in fine swordfighting form, wonder SBP was running around in all those heavy silks. Her sword-fighting is average I hear but then who can stand supreme or rather, equal in front of Tokas. Sandhya is spot-on : It's as natural to him as breathing & he does it as elegantly as Birju Maharaj does Kathak, probably. I can't wait for Tokas & SBP to hit the screen, basically, the real
story only begins then. I think he will murder Nandini's father or do you think her father will sacrifice himself for Nandini thus adding even more of an incentive for her to kill Chand? It's an Ekta Kapoor story so anything is possible.

P. S. Ah yes you were in the IFS! One day I would love to ask you what your favourite country stay was, what were your experiences & who were all the creme de la creme you elegantly hob-nobbed with! By the by, I am presuming that is you in your DP? Has anyone ever told you you look a LOT like Vjyantimala?

My darling child,

Rowling's writing IS pedestrian. Not her characters, nor her ability, just like Tolkien, to create a complete and internally consistent alternative world. But her books are not great literature. Or even just literature. The Lord of the Rings is literature.

I love the whole Harry Potter series, and I actually wept over Severus Snape in Book 7. And I not only have the full set, but also Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I also have a lot of stuff from the Harry Potter Lexicon.

However, excellent scripting and plotting does not automatically imply great writing skills. Take Dan Brown. His plotting is excellent, but his writing is as flat as cardboard. But that does not affect the thrills in his plots, nor their flow that carries the reader along relentlessly. You must learn to distinguish between the two things: the writing and the plotting

Yes, it is me in my DP photo, but that is 12 years old. Still, I look reasonably like it even now. It is the bones of the face; I have good bones. But if my Vyjayanti Akka were to hear you comparing me with her, she would be shocked and upset! She and her son Suchi stayed with us in Washington for a few days in 1996, and she was delighted when I told her that she looked exactly the same as in the 1958 classic Madhumati. There is no such thing as too much flattery for actors!😆

But then so was Elizabeth Taylor, whom I met once at La Guardia airport in New York in 1980, when I was a junior diplomat at the Embassy in Washington and had gone to cover the Democratic National Convention in New York for that year's Presidential elections. She was then married to Senator John Warner. Well, I gathered up my courage, walked up to her - she really had violet eyes, and they did not wear contacts in those days! - and told her she looked exactly like she had done in the 1960 Cleopatra. She literally blossomed before my eyes, and she gave me her autograph!

Ah yes, my diplomatic career of 38 years. More of that some other time.

Cometh Monday, cometh our Rajat. And all of you will almost collapse from holding your collective breaths!😉

Enjoying the NON-CGM Conversations more 😃

Sorry - But the presentation and pitch of serial beginning looks very boring to me.

Your commentary as always spectacular Akka.

If Chanakya is going to work on CGM to make him conquer Magadh, it will be good. Else we will still watch it.

I am not liking the DO ALL GOOD CGM avatar But this is EKTA show so no complaints. She shows what she wants to .

Somehow I feel CGM anger could have been built in a diff way.

Avantika - Nand axis for her 9 sons look too cheap.

One more promo is out and I am liking Sweta Basu in that quite a lot.

My dear Sri,

Thank you so much, my dear. But then you were always more than kind to my posts!

Since you have written more or less the same thing in my third Moonrise thread, I am simply pasting my response to you there here as well, with some additions. Saves me a good bit of typing!

How you do rush to judgement, Sri! Two lousy opening episodes which, curiously enough, seem to have had some sort of historical backing (though not for Nand being a barber!😉), followed by 2 better ones, and already you are crying that Chandragupta is being shown as too good. But why on earth should he be shown as bad, or even as a grey character? This is NOT Jalal the Jallad. This is a wonder boy whose genius Chanakya recognised very early on.

Chanakya will now have to cut and shape this rough diamond, and he will do precisely that. And why is it bad that Chandragupta saves Chanakya's life? Fighting off a wild boar would not have been a specialty of Chanakya's, for Heaven's sake!

That scene is tailor-made to convince Chanakya of the boy's courage, but not the kind of reckless courage that wants to show off. It is courage with a specific purpose, and even at this age, the boy knows what the odds are for his achieving that purpose. Which is precisely what Chanakya was looking for.

And he does achieve it. Both against the boar now, and against the enemies of Bharatmata later.

Similarly, I would not say that Chanakya was the "saviour" of young Chandragupta. Each needed the other, and it was a perfect partnership, though not one of equals. It was just a case of Lady Luck, who is a fickle jade at the best of times, producing a burst of glorious serendipity.

Chandragupta Maurya was one of the greatest warriors of all time - he never lost a battle - and Chanakya used him to splendid effect, first against the Macedonians and then against Nand.

You say that the build up of Chandra's anger should have been done differently. I feel that what was shown here is far, far better than the way it was done in Jodha Akbar. Now tell me what precisely you feel they should have done with that track. I am sure you would have some ideas, and it would be interesting to discuss them.

For the rest, do relax, Sri, and try and go with the flow. We all suffered thru a lot of junk in Jodha Akbar, remember? Even in the beginning.

I did not need to be reminded of your earlier no shows, young Sandhya. I kept note of them, but I do not cry all over absconding kids to make them feel guilty! So you could just as well have marched confidently in!😆

This apart, it looks to me like you have not seen my extensive response on page 8 at all. Now I am strongly tempted to start weeping. I spent over 45 minutes on that one!
