i read a comment which said Chandragupta lived as a widower after durdhara's death. WELL THIS IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG. I don't need to explain about Bindu and Asoka. Everyone is well aware of their Harem Life. 😆 But Chandragupta also maintained a big Harem.(By Harem I mean they also had many ladies in their palace.) Chandragupta had many wives though their names are not mentioned as they didn't play any significant role in the court. It was strictly prohibited by Chanakya. He never led any woman to control Chandragupta's mind. It was his monopoly.😆 Karuwaki and Devi played important role in Asoka's life but we do not find any specific mention of Chandragupta and bindusara's wives because they were not important. Only important ladies were used to be mentioned by Indian scholars and that was only if they were related to religious things. Secular literature also mentioned them if they were very famous like shakuntala , malvika of malvikaagnimitram, prabhavati gupta, durdhara(the legend of her death), karuwaki, devi etc etc. Chandragupta used to be surrounded by lady bodyguards, he made marital alliances and was the most popular samrat as he had destroyed Nandas. Not having many wives would do bad to his popularity. People expected a king to have many wives then. so...tada...😉
