| Love Story 2050 is Sci-Fi khichdi Bollywood's biggest attempt at producing a Hollywood-quality science fiction film is being readied for a June 13 release. The latest promos of Love Story 2050 show a slick production on the evidence of a tightly edited 2-minute trailer. So buoyed is the LS2050 team with their effort that they consigned comely Priyanka Chopra, the movie's heroine, to a blink-and-miss bit on the trailer, most of which is taken up by whizz-bang effects. Produced by Harry Baweja for his son Harman (who incidentally is also Priyanka's current boyfriend) the film is reported to have cost US $18 million (Rs 92 crore), presumably most of it spent on effects. The trailer shows a movie that is a mix of many movies. Among them Time Machine (boy and girl sit in machine that teleports them from present day to Mumbai of 2050), i Robot (replicating the scene where all the robots are lined up for inspection) and Star Wars (flying cars careening around space cities). The musical theme is also lifted, sounding like Robbie Williams's Millennium. The film's tagline is: Where love is eternal, even God bends his rule. Four foreign firms are working on the movie, two of which -- New Zealand's Weta Workshop and Australia's John Cox -- are Academy Award winners. Their efforts have been to put together a futuristic Mumbai skyline, which actually looks like present-day Shanghai, and a two-and-half-foot robot called Boo. |
