Shah Rukh Khan dragged to court

After the glitzy launch of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Bollywood star and the owner of the IPL Kolkata team, Shah Rukh Khan is in the dock. He along with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) — the local organiser of the Twenty20 tournament — have been dragged to court. CAB and SRK are in a tight spot for ticket distribution barely a month before the tournament kicks off.

Cricket Members Forum of Bengal has filed a suit in the city civil court challenging CAB's role in ticket distribution. The forum has asked the court to declare that CAB had no right to hold a match at the Eden Gardens without issuing free tickets to its members.

The litigants claimed that forum members are entitled to free tickets under Rule 15 (ii) of CAB Rules. They also sought a declaration that CAB had no right to curtail members' privilege.

"According to Rule-15 of CAB constitution all life members, associate members and affiliated members are supposed to get free tickets for all matches organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. We are 31,000 members and this match is not for any benevolent cause or charity. So, there is no reason why we will not get our free tickets," Cricket Members Forum of Bengal Convener, Abhijit Sarkar was quoted by news agency IANS as saying.

The CAB had decided to give tickets at a concession to all other members, besides allowing them a head start of five days ahead of the public sale of tickets.

CAB Joint Secretary, Amitabha Banerjee was quoted by IANS as saying, "We have heard of one such case but we can't react until we get the papers. Our solicitor firm Fox and Mandal is looking into the case and if it comes up for the hearing on Wednesday, they will represent us."

The matter will be heard later today.
