Ash to star in Robot
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has shown more than keen interest to be a part of Shankar's next film Robot and has verbally agreed to romance Rajnikanth on screen.
"Shankar was very keen to have Ash. Since she had been travelling a lot and was busy with the filming of Jodhaa Akbar earlier she didn't have any time to actually go through the script. But once she did she was more than happy to work with Shankar and Rajnikanth," says a source close to Aishwarya.
Shankar's Robot is a 100-crore budgeted film and is backed by Sony Pictures. Previously, Deepika Padukone was in the running to play the female lead but her huge asking price seemed to have cost her the role. "Rajni sir's last film was a super hit. And Ash too has big fan following down South so it also seems a lot more prudent choice for the banner and the director to sign Ash," says the source.
The source adds that Aishwarya was approached only once SRK's exit was confirmed. For those who may not know SRK and Ash do not get along very well and have therefore worked in less than a handful projects together. Shankar's Robot is said to be laden with special effects and will be something that Bollywood is yet to see. The sci-fi film is said to be the story of a scientist played by Rajnikanth who invents a new robot that is expected to work for the good of humanity. However, the robot develops a mind of its own and works against the human race and how the scientist saves the world is what the story is all about.
Ash sure seems to have a busy 2008 chalked out for her with the release of Jodha Akbar on February 15th and Sarkar Raj later in the summer with the rest of the Bachchan family. She is also expected to finish filming for the last leg of Pink Panther 2 and begin filming for Ben Kingsley's Taj Mahal and one of the most expensive French films ever made – Asterix at the Olympic Games for which a special role is being essayed for Ash.
