That's how it is in every English medium school. Kids aren't allowed to converse in Hindi or regional languages

Nah not all. Just certain elite schools. CBSE as well as ICSE had great MIL syllabi back when I studied.

Principal in our school would order detention in her office when she caught someone speaking in Hindi and Odia

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeish. Both of those languages are related to English lol. The amount of elitism encouraged by some is astounding and disgusting simultaneously. Kids should definitely be encouraged to be able to communicate with different groups of people.

We had at least two MIL subjects when I was studying— granted I didn't go to an elite/old school.

Not necessarily.....we were forbidden to converse in Hindi....except Hindi and Sanskrit class.....yet it didn't affect our Hindi......only when kids are faking an accent ...they sound terrible...so do adults...smiley36

If you hear Suhana speak Hindi in KBC .....its normal everyday Hindi....didn't sound terrible at all.
