At the start of itself he goes ye meri bandi hain to a classroom full of students without having spoken a word to her. He controls how she spends her vacation time or when she gets hurt and he decides that she is to move into the boy's hostel with him. He picks out a girl in the class because she is “healthy” and tells Preeti that she is to be friends with this girl because girls can't be friends unless a pretty girl is paired with with a 'healthy' girl, who serves as the 'teddy bear'.

Later he goes to Preeti's house to ask her hand in marriage and he decides to make out with Preeti outside her home. Her father is angry. Kabir calls Preeti's father “bewakoof”, he tells Preeti she has no identity aside from being Kabir ki bandi, he slaps her, then gives her an ultimatum of 6 hours.

When Preeti misses his ultimatum, a morphine induced high causes Kabir to black out for a couple of days. When he wakes up he realizes that Preeti has gotten married. Unable to accept this he storms into Preeti's house and is nicely beaten up by her family members.

Kabir goes into full on Devdas mode where we get introduced to the secondary characters cigarattes, daaru bottle and drugs. He attempts to rape a woman at knifepoint. He gets drunk, and performs surgery, and continues to yell at his colleagues. He even gets a dog, and calls her Preeti. Don't even get me started on that poor dog.

Later he passes out while performing surgery while intoxicated, and has to face a trial. At the trial he shows up drunk and he is very proud of the fact that when he was operating he did not harm anyone. Koi mar toh nahin gaya na. For the first time in the whole movie after all this drama he decides to take responsibility and be honest, his brother slaps him, because his license is suspended. While his friend offers toxic Kabir Singh his sister’s hand in marriage. Friend must have really hated his sister. WTF bro.

Throughout the movie we are given no insight or background into what makes Kabir Singh so angry or the reason he turned out the way he is. We see no growth in the character. We see very little consequences for his actions. No matter how many times he screws up the director then makes us feel sorry for him. The only thing we see is his license is suspended, but he behaves badly with the girl, still gets the girl. When he doesn’t get what he wants, he spirals out of control.

Kabir Singh, an "alpha hero", with all the romantic songs! This is why I am not watching Vanga's movies ever again.

Sounds like a Chinese drama on drugs where the hero yanks, drags and dominates the frail and innocent looking female lead. And the female lead promptly falls in luurve with him despite being treated as his property. There is a big audience for this type of crap. Not to mention the demand for submission and dominance crap in the p04n.

But it was an interesting take and an intense film and you should take it as a movie and not judge the film actors or makers for making that film which is true.

I mean same year Sanju also released and so many scenes in the film was problematic nobody called that out.

People were shocked(left liberals) that a South Indian had made the film and the film did do well.

The only problem was Vanga where though he was right to call out the biases also basically told that people slap each other in relationship I mean wtf was that.

Ranbir is only saying it as it is a Vanga film

While the criticism KS got was valid, it was absolutely pathetic how the same people had nothing to say about a garbage movie like Sanju. Anupama Chopra and her crew are the biggest hypocrites and one of the reasons why Hindi cinema has taken a nosedive.

Let’s see, but I won’t hold my breath over it. Awards are already made into a joke by some stars and their sycophants.

Its inspired by 70s and 90s movies i guess

Like one 90s movie had anil kapoor rape juhi chawla and she comes and lives as his wife and takes all his nonsense like a sati savitri wife till he melts for her

another movie i saw on TV was dharmendra kidnap heroine i think zeenat azam because shes very rich and snobbish and does no work so he makes her do all house work and when she changes he falls in love

another salman movie had similar theme he kidnaps neelam whose hi fi and makes her cook clean take care of his neice nephews and neelam falls for him

another sunny movie i think betab or sultanat had same theme sunny kidnaps heroine to teach her lesson and tames her making her was his horses and remove their dung etc and cook etc

Vanga is inspired by 80s and 90s movies and way heroes treated heroines than

sadly same era returning so all immature men on streets will think only way to make a rich educated snobbish girl love them is to kidnap or slap them and tame them into submission till girl falls for him

Ugh kabir was such a terrible person, the worst person one can think of. It's like he targeted preeti because he could see she was a pushover, he knew she would not say anything to him, which is why he could do whatever he wanted to her, slap her, insult her, he does not ask permission to touch her or take her out of class, he tells her who she has to be friends with and when she should go back home after the vacation even though she didn't want to go home. He even moved her into his dorm room without even asking her permission, the most disgusting excuse of a man.

He is the weakest example of a man, because he wouldn't be able to handle a woman who had a voice and a opinion of her own, so he targets a girl like preeti. The fact that he would go crazy whenever somebody said no to him shows he is a coward and a wimp, a real man would be strong and stick by their girl, but kabir left preeti and threatened her when her father said no.

Preeti was so weak and silent, and they romanticised that, they tried to make it look desirable, which is so terrifying and heartbreaking to me, the whole relationship makes me feel sick, at the start she was terrified of him like everyone else, and kabir wanted her to be terrified so he can do whatever he wanted.

And as you said, there is no reason shown as to why kabir is like this, his family seems to be loving and well mannered. And then vanga rewards thus despicable human being by giving him preeti and the baby is his!

In Animal already rks heavily violent character is being shown as this stylish cool person, he will be admired by the toxic male audience, they are already giving the excuse that he loves his papa. And his abusive relationship will rashmika will be romanticised, because rashmika will stick by him through all of his psychotic behaviour.

Yes, these days women don't bother with immature men. No one wants to be stuck with an overgrown toddler for the rest of their life.

It is true that Kabir Singh is hugely problematic but they were showing a highly toxic guy. They didn’t whitewash him, his personality was such that he himself ruined things for himself.

Fifty shades of grey - book too has such a premise but world over that book is a bestseller and so many other books with similar storylines popped up.

What does this say???? This kinda content sells and how!

Even IF people find such characters like Kabir, and now probably RK’s in Animal toxic they still love to watch it and lap it up.

Kabir Singh made huge money and Fifty shades a bestseller - answer lies there. Animal is also creating interest for such problematic scenes itself.
