Forum is not balanced - Page 2

That is something that also annoys me (although I also post boxoffice numbers and discuss boxoffice for certain movies).

For new movies in theatres (especially prominent ones) there would be the possibility to make three different threads:

XYZ reviews/discussion without any spoiler

XYZ reviews/discussion with spoiler

XYZ boxoffice

for Web or smaller films, I think, it's okay to integrate boxoffice into the review threads

The other point that verdicts are - far too often - a discussion point...well, as you mention, it could be a lack of knowledge...

I bet, there are members here who join a discussion about a movie they even haven't watched only to bash it (or a certain actor/actress)

I think it's up to us to react to them accordingly...it's not the moderators' or the admin's task.

I also think: why should it be? Should one put everything on a balance that happenes or that one encounters in life?

When one would only encounter/allow one-sided arguments here, in a forum that is open to divergent opinions, then I would say, it isn't balanced.

This one may have - at times - a certain 'list' (preferences)...so what?

One thing I'll say here is that do not let newbies join without providing a phone number. Which wouldn't be available to mods to see but just yourselves.

All existing members should provide a phone number too. Verification should also be done to that number by sending a code.

Some may think it's extreme, but there is genuine concern, a lot of IF members are socially networking off IF. Unfortunately, people are taking info shared off there and sharing it on IF via MIDs. So yes we are at a place where we need to take extra precautions.

Regarding everything else, I want to suggest.. I'll send it via PM. I'll copy Jayshree in too.

I've been admin/Global mod in forums, so there are a number of ideas I have.

If that is only a problem because of MIDs, than why the title is about "balanced"???

I agree that the multiple - most probably fake - "newbies" (MIDs?) are irritating at times.

What can be done to restore balance ?

Maybe for a while you shouldn't allow any newbies to join. It join process should include a data check.

That is a very bad idea, if you want existing members to do that too. You dont want to be giving your phone numbers like that. These are linked to a lot of things. I have lost count of the number of times I have got msgs saying the password has been compromised. The only relief I feel at such times is that I dont have any personal info here.

As it is we have enough companies selling personal information.

It can lead to a much bigger problem than having balanced Bollywood discussions.
