DP triumph over protests in 2018 with Padmavat. Indian audiences don’t care for protests at large. Nothing new. The whole khans angle to play victim is all a propaganda.

Baki toh same old hai. Expected responses from everyone.

Bollywood again will start thinking that big spectacle movies are working so they will continue churning out garbage.

Theater jana is not something I am stuck upon. Ghar pe toh sab movies dekh hi sakte hai. 😆

Yea, this is definitely personal for a lot of people. I haven’t watched a Bollywood film in years (last yr I watched an old film after a sabbatical of over ten yrs) but I’ve been reading about these boycotts and the overwhelming anti-Muslim sentiment in certain factions of India, and it’s so depressing. Especially to see it infiltrate Bollywood; the industry that has a rich history of cross-religious collaboration. There was a time when the top writers, directors, and actors were a healthy mix of Hindu and Muslim and they all got along amazingly well.

Now you have an increasingly radicalised audience lambasting anything remotely non-Hindu, and if that wasn’t sad enough you have bigoted actors like Akshay Kumar and Anumpum Kher adding fuel to the fire and capitalising on the hate.

That’s why I really wanted to see this movie succeed, it’s become symbolic of political, religious and cultural tolerance. This movie breaking the streak of flops sends a strong message that the majority of the Indian population won’t stand the far-rights hate-fuelled behaviour.

It’s actually prompted me to revisit some old Indian films. I watched Chaudavin ka chand and Kashmir ki kali last week, and the subtle instances of religious tolerance shown in these old movies is so heartwarming. In Chaudavin ka chand you have a Muslim story - so Muslim characters - but they interact beautifully with the minor Hindu characters. In Kashmir ki kali it’s the other way round - Hindu characters who interact beautifully with minor Muslim characters. I miss those days.

On one hand, the usual suspects claim the threats are not doing any harm, and it's the content.

I agree with the content claim.

But I also see claims about boycotts working for Lal Singh Chadda.

So which is it? RW is trying to have it both ways.

Bottomline is this. Boycotts bots have zero power. When content movies come up with good entertainment factor as well, they succeed. Even if not well made. 😆 Brahmastra certainly wasn't well made, but it was hella entertaining.

In Pathan's case, there's really nothing great. Except SRK's magic. And yeah, tons of evidence out there that people are in fact celebrating it as a win over hateful elements.

The hate brigade lost, and they know it.

Yes, I share your hope BW doesn't immediately decide spectacle movies are the only way. Not holding my breath though. 😆 They hate hiring writers for reasons best known to them.
