Dude could’ve taken the moral high ground. Spent a few weeks in prison if the atrocities bothered him that much. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Refused on the grounds of pacifism even. But alas, he didn’t. But today, he preaches to India.👏

sev.puri, he did NOT "preach to India"! He talked about an Indian movie in the contest that clearly was a one-sided, accusatory movie targeted to give a reason for hate feelings against a WHOLE community - without ANY exception.

I bet, he would talk at another festival in the same position about another movie that would be in the same propagandistic vein than TKF which itself isn't the first movie to support a government's leaning/manipulating people's feelings by showing atrocities done to humans by other humans...and will not be the last one.

And why are some people here failing to keep the language free from insults of other members only because they don't like the latter's point of view.?!

The left does care about kashmiri pandit exodus from the valley. Many leftists/liberals have written, made films way before 2014. Not on a commercial scale but many documentaries were made with KP victims. Hindus claiming the exodus after 2014 is so funny.

Film makers with malicious intentions to stoke the enmity can infact make propaganda films on a subject that is very sensitive. The left does not owe anything to film makers who produce this propaganda. Just because I hated the film doesn't mean am against Kashmiri pundits.

It's a bit rich to blame Muslims when they are the ones who have to bear the brunt of the hateful right wing in this country. Looks like people here have forgotten what happened in theatres across India when the film released. Chants to extinguish the Muslims and pure harassment on anyone who was visibly Muslim. Absolute vile bigotry. But hey, you do you.

@bold: orrrrr alternatively it showed the plight of a community even the average Indian doesn’t know about? My own mother having LIVED in Bombay during the exodus had barely any knowledge of the KPs plight. What does that tell you as a non Indian? But sure, keep harping on about government and political parties. FYI the genocide was NOT a result “atrocities done to humans by other humans”. It was very specifically targeted on the basis of religion towards the Kashmiri Hindu Pandit community, i.e. the indigenous people of the land.

Kashmiri pandit genocide happened. No one would talk about it honestly because of this fear of stigmatizing an entire community. When those who don't want to stigmatize refuse to talk, the people who are not afraid of stigmatizing will talk.

With re: nuance. The dead people will be unable to appreciate any such nuance, I'm afraid. Nor will their families. Nor will the displaced masses.

As for the rest, what we see and hear is silence from people purporting to be on the side of liberalism.

Bluntly and without nuance, call terrorism by its name and condemn it. There is absolutely no room for *yeah, but*s or *some people did something*s.

Classic defence. As the Palestinian debate goes, you can be pro Palestine and still NOT be an anti-semite. But anyway, i’d love for you to explain how the movie (note I said the movie, not political parties or extreme right wing individuals) propagates the idea that the entire Indian Muslim community is responsible for what happened. Feel free to point to a specific dialogue in the movie that made you think so.
