Don’t quite think allu is like hrithik
Unlike hrithik , allu didn’t hit stardom overnight …largely because he looked VERY different when he started (To be blunt , he was ugly), and hammed quite a bit ….his claim to fame was his dance numbers ….for which the credit should also go to Devi Sri Prasad who gave him most of his hit numbers atleast initially…
But as an actor , he was written off initially …and he kept getting opportunities thanks to allu aravinds clout ….
His first film was with k raghavendra Rao (biggest director of that time) , he then worked with vv vinayak (director with the most pull in the masses at that time …his prev film was Tagore with chiranjeevi) , karunakaran (known to give classic love stories)…puri jagannath (again huge with the masses)….his dad literally curated a career by hiring the best and spacing out his love stories, youth centric films and mass movies so he gains a market in all 3 bases …
His turning point as an actor came with vedam where he truly performed well in the emotional scenes …and from then on his association with trivikram made him gain a market with the family audiences ….
I feel like he’s had it easiest compared to even jnr ntr , charan and mahesh
Jnr ntr wasn’t accepted by people and the family coz he was born to his dads second wife and from what I’m told, he didn’t grow up in luxury …and neither did he get a star /curated debut …there was no one helping him make decisions etc
Mahesh babu got a great launch and a great line up on a sliver platter but his family was in debt ridden back then ….his first few films until 2007 had his salary going majorly towards clearing debts …and while his dad had goodwill in the industry, he didn’t really have clout at that time in the media or in terms of theatres …
Charan had everything but with constant comparisons to his dad, and constant expectations that he’s as good as chiranjeevi if not better …
Allu in that sense had the best of situation amongst them all….he came from a powerful family , he was financially well off and didn’t have additional responsibilities …his family had theatres, exhibitors, own production houses and clout in the media …..and he came with 0 expectations or pressures …

Are we doing a comparison on this thread ?
Or
Are we simply recognizing a GQ title ?
Or
BOTH...?
I think according to the current scenario, a comparison is going on between Arjun and other nepo kids.
I do not know whether this source is trust worthy, but seems like first look might come soon
Allu & Ranveer deserve their respective recognitions by GQ for 2022 🥳
Nepotism in tollywood is a lot different to Bollywood. Allu debuted with Gangotri and quite bluntly put he was not at all a looker. And that was in 2003 and it average business. The actress was also not a big name, she is Arti Agarwal's sister. So no big names. But come 2004 he came out with Arya which was a smashing hit. He completely transformed himself, built a lean body, groomed himself quite well and the movie highlighted his strength that is his dancing. The movie was Sukumar's (also the director for pushpa, rangasthalam) and a complete outsider so the movie itself was a huge gamble. There were all actors and the movie was solely on the shoulders of Allu and DSP's music. It was not an easy feat. Now here is the difference that you see among the bolly nepos and the South. Allu took into consideration what wasn't working with his debut and worked towards wowing the audience, took risk with the director and the story too. Arya was quite a trendsetter and a break from mass hero centric or family movies. There was no hand holding for Allu. The movies working was solely his responsibility. There was no PR or curated movies waiting for him (his dad production house did give him movies, but again not to the strength to the present day Alias, Ranbirs (I like RK onscreen and I have a diff take on his stardom), Varuns or Jhanvi, Ananya and the whole brigade. He did both small budget, multistarrer and mass movies. His stardom, craze and fans are organic and built solely on his work, not offscreen drama or needless PR hyped relationships. The craze for him in Kerala, and Kollywood is built on his hard work and not media narrative or industry folks pushing up his name. He has been in movies since 2003 and come 2022 is where the hindi audience is even getting to know him. Coming from film family had set expectations on all stars like AA, Ram Charan, Prabhas (a diff kinda fame again) , Jr NTR (his fame again is a diff story) but they carved out their own niche in due time diff from their dads, uncles.
Secondly, the competition among South stars is healthy but fierce. They are humble to their success and take full responsibility of their failures. No blaming audience (cue Shamshera) or shifting the blame to costars (alias kalank) or any other sneaky attempt is ever made. They are risk taking and talented and maintain good relationships with industry folk, even outsiders. They support small budget movies, promote them in audio and trailer launch events, and some even produce (mahesh for major recently). Nepotism in South is certainly not downplayed on the forum here. Talks about big actors sons being heroes or PH backed stars goes on here. Point to be noted is the barrier to entry for outsiders has always been lower for newcomers in South industry. Just look at the director of Vikram, his directorial debut with Kamal hasan, fahad, setupathy, all bigwigs and the guy has no connection to films. In Bollywood these actors and their egos are so huge that they are not even ready to act in a multistarrer (in KJo's own words). When you look at the outsider ratio in Bollywood to South, you'll get a pretty clear picture (right from actors to directors and various other artists). Successful outsiders in Bollywood can be literally on fingers, so few and far between. Comedians, lyricists, and choreographers are celebrated and given so much reverence which is a distant dream in Bollywood (it once was like that but not anymore). The directors are a brand in themselves, take rajamouli, trivikram, atlee, p a rajnith, v v vinayak etc but Bollywood is too hero centric. It's only on forums like these hindi directors are even talked about. PH in South encourage talent even among directors be it sukumar, bommarillu bhaskar etc.
Nani, Ram, Vijay, vishwaksen, ravi teja, srikanth, and many many more in tollywood and tamil and malayalam industry, even sandalwood work for the art and love for cinema. Otherwise no A lister like Prabhas and Anushka in their right mind would even take a gamble with a movie like bahubali for which Prabhas and Rana did not star in any movie for five years straight. This conviction and dedication shows in their work and that is what separates the stars of South and Bollywood. Bollywood can keep remaking and copying
I could go on but I've said enough. It gets on my case when people on this forum blindly lump the nepotism of South film industries with bollywood. The dynamics are very different and nothing alike.
Damn, I really wrote a novel here 😆
Prabhas is very introverted and except movies which he signed he is barely there in public eye
Same for Anushka and Rana, I think Anushka is not interested, she is also very low profile despite her huge popularity and Rana is also more interested in doing production, off beat or supporting roles and not typical hero type roles. It is actually refreshing to see them in an era when people amplify non existent stardom through sm. It is also the level of ambition.
Yes, allu has the package of a “star” dance,
Acting and charisma and obviously his dad’s super shrewdness and resources but he is social and outgoing unlike the others.
I agree he is more hrithik
Samantha is also similar, though of course an outsider
Word to this post. Also these stars of South are not big on monetary gain either as per my observation. None of them go for brand endorsements or ads much. Otherwise with their clout they could win awards and bag big deals. There is no baseless PR activity and media attention or stupid blinds trying to malign fellow actors. They look for the overall success of the movie, for instance how Rana took a complete backseat and let Sai Pallavi shine through Virata Parvam promotions and genuinely praised her to skies as it was her movie althroughout (despite her being a non-telugu actress). He is also into experimental cinema and animation and is prepping into venture heavily in these industries by backing new talent. It's just a different ballgame in South compared to Bollywood.
The term NEPOTISM is so broad now. The essence of it's value for healthy socio-political or socio-economic leverage as a discussion in ANY INDUSTRY has been highly diminished. 😃

WORD.
As I said earlier that, Arjun wasn’t the likable and instant popular star kid like that of Alia or RK from their very first films, infact he was criticized and then he groomed himself, worked on his entire physique and took his strengths, such as dancing and style to showcase the likable side of him. Arya was the litmus test where Sukumar wasn’t a known director and it worked for both of them and established Arjun to the main steam south markets. His popularity in Kerala and other southern belts are not because his dad or his uncles from the family goes on hyping him around, it’s purely built over the years and gradually with each movie. Saying that he has it easier than other nepo kids is also wrong, while Charan or Prabhas were the lucky ones to bag a Rajamouli movie sooner in their career, which escalated their identity to bigger markets, Charan even got his Bollywood debut post Magadheera.
As I said, Pushpa’s success has given many misconceptions to people who don’t know about his journey Atleast, the first that Pushpa made him popular, which is not truly the scenario and second that being a nepo kid his father brought all great directors for him, which again gets invalidated because the same wasn’t repeated either for his cousins or his own brother Sirish. Also about Trivikram, if Ala Vaikuntapurumalo is not only Arjun’s but also TriVikram’s career’s greatest hit till now, so it’s not that Trivikram alone could deliver such a crazy hit, the music also played a huge role.
One thing which I agree is, DSP and Allu Arjun’s combination though, I think both owe each other a part of their success. Also Arjun’s biggest film till date Pushpa isn’t produced by his dad nor is directed by the best director he has ever worked with.
The director and actor combo in south matters a lot, just like how Sekva-Dhanush or a Vetrimaaran-Dhanush ensures sth iconic, but to say that Dhanush is privileged because Vetrimaaran only directs him is very unfair because Dhanush earned that, with good will and his onscreen excellence and similarly a Allu Arjun/DSP combo or Arjun-Trivikram combo penetrates other states only because they all have contributions. DSP doesn’t create an Oo Antava with every hero he’s composed for, Thaman also doesn’t create a Buttabomma for every hero he’s composed for, so it’s all a collective effect and I’m happy that apart from Rajamouli someone else has broken through the Pan India markets, that might make the future collaborations more interesting. I’m equally excited for Rajamouli and MB movie as well as Pushpa2. Both shall be massive.
And lastly, south stars always get subjected to body shaming and get called ugly, and thus they do extra work to groom themselves and get accepted unlike the Bollywood nepo kids where even worse looking nepo kids with zero facial expressions get the tag of next big thing, you should watch the KWK episode of Dhanush and Sara.
