I agree with the peeps who said the ad deserved trolling for the father-daughter pairing and someone unethical as Aamir promoting family values. But why are people dragging religion into this when it is not a religion problem.

I can only think of 2 reasons.

1) Misogynic twits hiding behind religion

2) Aamir's religion which makes him a target, so religion is being brought up here.

As far as I can see, dowry system goes the other way around. Grooms think they have a right to demand the bride's parents' property.

What you call dowry is termed property rights in legal terms the only difference being, father has options to give as much dowry as he wants either willingly or unwillingly but there is no such option when woman decides to go for it legal way.

Also, girls have options to accept grooms dowry demands or send them to jails. So, there are all sorts of options available for women...not so much for the husbands, fathers or the FILs.

1. Indian law (lawyers, correct me if I'm wrong) says only ancestral/generational property needs to be equally divided between children. Otherwise, wives have no claim on FIL or MIL's property. They can leave to whoever they want. If they die without will, property gets equally divided between spouse and children.

2. Same for wife's parents. There are no property rights unless it's ancestral property.

So no. Dowry is not the same as property rights.

And I'd like to see how many men go to jail for dowry or how many men get killed/abused because of failure of his parents to deliver money.

Got some stats versus dowry deaths/abuse for women? I'm gonna bet no.

Sorry. Dowry is NOT property rights. It is extortion of money and wealth, resources from family of woman by family of groom. Women are tortured and killed for dowry.

Legally women have got right to inherit property from parents only in recent decades.

Dowry is plain LOOT of girl's family and it is not just done after marriage but also after it as demands go on increasing and greedy in laws want everything from electronics to carpet or flat or car from family of woman

Women have right to only parents' property or at the most husband's property. Not property of FIL. Do not comment without knowledge of Indian law.
