He would not have been cast if he was doobta sooraj and had no brand value till date.

Among masses he is still more well known and draws older audience too.

Clock maybe ticking but he has more worth than anyone at his age and many younger than him. There is a reason why Chiranjeevi and Rajinikanth type legends also touch his feet when they meet him. He knows his worth. And he knows how to cash it till last moment.

We shall see where these Ranbirs, Alias are at 79 and if they get even as much work as AB does.

We are talking about two different aspects. I am not speaking about his brand value, money or the goodwill AB has earned over the long years in the industry.

I am talking about relevance and actual power in the Hindi film industry. AB’s time has long gone. He would still get work, but he isn’t anyone to fear or pander to anymore.

Like the superstars before him in the industry, AB occupies an esteemed position in the eyes of the public and his peers, but not an influential one. In other words, his peers don’t have to placate him and tiptoe around his moods.

Also, South treats its superstars as Gods. Heck, they even make temples in their name. That’s really not the kind of fame AB or anyone enjoys in Bollywood. The culture is different.

Yes that power is waning for sure.

But if man is cash cow or brand at this age too then he will be expecting to be treated a certain way.

He has biggest names from movies, business and policies falling at his feet and diplomats visiting him. So the ego is bound to get hurt if he is short changed and ignored.

It must also hurt that his family lacks power if not for him and his son is not successful and he has no male heir hoping to carry his legacy of heroism like Kapoor khandaan.

The frustration is a given and he also wants to send message to industry how he will not tolerate being treated a certain way or will retaliate if not treated well. He did not promote Brahmastra in KBC either.

You are right on the ego part. God knows, there is enough ego in people who are not even one-tenth of AB. He is bound to have a gigantic one of his own. After all, he was a raging superstar of his time and is used to people bending over backwards to please him.

Regarding the family thing, I think AB is largely to blame for that. He promoted his son like crazy, but didn’t allow the women of his family to work. His DIL Aishwarya Rai was a beauty Queen, a star global audiences recognised (if not loved). His grand daughter is talented and wants to go in the movies, but he refuses to allow her.

Honestly, I believe that if one doesn’t flow with the changing times, they will stagnate and the time will move ahead without them 🤷‍♀️

There has something happened - on a personal level - way before the promotion started...I'm almost certain about that. The reciprocal ignoring is just a reaction to a fall-out that even may have nothing to do with the movie as such. I also think that Amitji's part was made somehow less impactful because of what happened (like I think that Alia's character portrait suffered from reasons on a personal level).

But that are only my assumptions. I also noticed that SRK did not involve himself into the promotion (but he posted Amitjis ad about the Legends Cricket League).

He is patriarchal and so is Jaya. They are deffo a reason why grand daughter did not join films and why DIL slowed down as well.

Jaya throwing tantrums at intimate scenes in JA, D2, ADHM were a sign where Ash's career was headed. I have noticed Bachchans are not promoting PS1 either and hardly promoted Ash's previous films like Sarabjit, Action Replay, ADHM etc. They only promoted Robot because Rajinikanth was their family friend. Otherwise never seen them promote Ash's films especially after Abhishek's career totally tanked as a leading man.

So why will he retire and not continue to do whatever he wants and milk his status till last drop? He still gets work and is a brand. He regrets taking break in 90s too. He will never retire and most likely die during shooting or work on a set and not on bed.

I admire him for still working this hard at his age when he could have easily retired. And he is still so charismatic onscreen, more than most of today’s actors would ever be.

Working is the best way to not being at home...

...and it may be the only thing that gives him some value.

I don't think that he has a loving or even satisfying family life.

It seemed to me that he really loved his role in KANK...

I am seeing Brahmastra team equally ignoring AB like Bachchans are ignoring this film.

To be fair to the team, AB did not bother to promote the film at all. Strictly going by reviews, the movie’s saving grace was the vfx. The team knew it and went on a massive promotion overdrive,p. They relied heavily on the cast to promote it and AB being the senior most member of the cast and biggest name of them all should have headlined the promotions. Do you blame the cast for snubbing him now when the film has made money when all he did before the film’s release was promote the shit outta every other movie except his own. Imagine how they must have felt. With so much money riding on this film , he should kept whatever his ego issues were, aside and promoted it like a,professional. He could have stepped back after the promotions and refused to be a part of the next instalment.

Kjo is also extremely close to the Bachchan family and Shwetdi’s bestie. He could have kept his grudges aside for that alone.

This is probably one of those rare instances where I found AB very unprofessional. I despise him for his antics offscreen but he is of course a legend. But I was pretty surprised with his lack of professionalism here.

I would have done the same as what the cast is doing. Infact they arnt even doing anything wrong. Alia accidentally missed his name and i do not biame her for forgetting him given the guy disassociated himself from the film long back.
