Because world is filled with jealous pathetic people.

Either incels or feminazis.

She did it in olden days when women usually did this. I am not glorifying it. I am quoting it for those who think Jaya was nobody if not for Bachchan's wife or think she is bitter for heck of it. Her bitterness comes from a reason.

Her husband dominated and bullied her. Karan Thapar once wrote how Amitabh openly shouted at Jaya during a dinner even though Jaya was not at fault and he was just taking out anger of his (Karan's) question on his affair with Rekha and Parveen on Jaya.

Not to glorify but to contextualize what all she bore and why she does not deserve further bashing she gets. She has already had a tough life and who knows if she lives in a golden cage. Amitabh has a clean image only due to this lady tolerating him. He is no saint who deserved 'angel like Rekha'. Nor is he some tragic hen pecked husband he is made out to be.

I just wanted to say star wives have no glossy or great lives as people think. They have own issues and who knows how much they tolerate or live in golden cage?

Why is it assumed they are pampered or have it all from or due to their husbands? Or are entitled brats who do nothing?

Thanks for the reply, atominis 😊

There is another - parallel thread (TM = yellow smiley) "Bollywood Wives are not Self-Made" which deals with similar aspects of being the wife/partner of a celebrity...

Why people are so eager to be judgemental about star-wives (and people in general)? Maybe a fault in our "machine" oneself doesn't consider as a fault but a human right...

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think SRK had an affair with priyanka…

Srk is super friendly and touchy feely with everyone he meets.. he lets men and women hug him, kiss him, touch him.. his personal belongings have made their way to people he met all the way from Afghanistan to Pakistan and Malaysia… I’ve seen clips of him literally taking off his jewelry and watched and gifting to people so PC having his jacket is no big deal… alia was seen wearing his coat…

Priyanka is a more refined version of kangana who took someone’s frndly nature and decency for something more…

having said that, I think Gauri designs are tacky 😆 but then again most rich people homes I’ve seen in BW circles and even ambanis are really tacky… so I guess it’s a rich people thing which people like you and I can’t understand 😆

Lol no it absolutely isn’t a rich person thing. Lots of wealthy people, esp old money usually, have lovely, stunningly understated houses. Ambanis are new money & are superbly tacky but one really can’t make it out to be a “rich people thing.” It’s just plain bad styling & tackiness which doesn’t see socioeconomic class. 😆

I agree. Money doesn’t solve everything.

No..more power to women who leave their AH husbands..and make a world for themselves..there are so many of those not only in showbiz and they have raised their kids beautifully as well..

I admire those women the most.

Hmm, one thing that bothers me is that there is really no equivalence between Jaya and Gauri.

Jaya was an actress in her own right, she was actually considered to be a top-tier actress who debuted after training in a prestigious film institute. AB was a nobody at the time. Look at some of her performances in movies like Guddi, Bawarchi- she is so good! I guess younger people like us call her Jaya Bachchan but older ones like my aunt call her Jaya Bhaduri! She obviously had her own identity as an actress and a star. Yes, AB is a legend now but Jaya had her own thing going on.

Gauri on the other hand is known to us because she is SRK's wife.

Apart from the other discussions here, I really think that there is no use conflating the debate about the two women here.

Amri, you're right, two different women with different journeys and very different approach to Hindi Cinema.

BUT...but what they have in common is their spirit of supporting the man they chose to marry ...and I think for both, it was the OWN choice that was important.

I bet they had VERY difficult times together, but love is also about loyality to and respect for the partner - even in very tough times (and that is something reciprocal).

I don't know for the Bachchans but I definitely know that there is - whatever may have occured as problems - a deep rooted affection/respect in ShahRukh for Gauri and in Gauri for ShahRukh (which they obviously also showed to their kids - even in tough times.

(My thoughts about Amitji don't correspond to those about SRK, I've to admit.)
