I was also wondering what the heck happened.😆
Pre pandemic they used to pay 12-15cr for big star movies (Mostly Khan movies) as music rights, lekin 248+208=4416 calculator walon ne music ke hi 50cr nikaal li... OTT pays 80cr+ for non-theatrical films of big stars (Lower for already released film in theater)... lekin already theater mein release hue movies ke shayad 200cr nikaal li... then comes satellite rights which depends on how successful was the lead actor's last few movies on TV. And Ranbir's Sanju was a flop on TV. Phir bhi TV se hi 500cr nikaal liye honge. Toh film ko theater se kamane ki kya zaroorat... theater mein toh woh charity kar rahe hai sirf.
Exaggerations apart, this account is telling the truth.. it could only recover 150-200 cr pre-release from OTT-Music-Satellite. Rest they have to recover from theaters. If the budget is 450cr... they need to recover at least 250cr-300cr from theaters to break even (not to become a hit). So the movie needs to earn at least 600cr-720cr WW to break even. More.. it would be called a hit.
Even blue-tickers mocking them now

Bramhastra PR should slow down... Declaring movie a hit on first day is way too greedy 😆
It is a huge budget movie, so atleast see a week collection before PR articles calling it a hit
As OTT and all rights are with hot star, it is hard for PR campaign follow the same path of Gangu Bhai to declare a hit 😆

They do that intentionally since Indian audience want to invest in successful ventures. So if they hear a movie is a hit, they buy tickets for the whole family and watch it.
Yeh Samose waale Brahmastra ko HIT karane ke chakkar mein Manikarnika type movies ko HIT banaa denge 😆.

LOL... Manikarnika ne bhi OTT-music-satellite se 80cr kamaye honge toh Manikarnika blockbuster hui na.
😂😂it's KJo "conjecture" for hit status. It seems the Brahmastra team is trying hard to build a momentum to recover as much as possible in order to sail further. What they are missing is that these days word of mouth is most important and public knows about paid fake reviews.
Regarding the hit-flop status, what I have understood is that is calculated this way:
1) Flop- less than budget cost
2) Average- budget cost + 25%
3) Hit- budget cost + 50%
4) super hit- budget cost+75%
5) blockbuster- budget cost+100%
Only domestic collections area taken into consideration.
And earlier if it is a hit in Mumbai circle then it was considered a hit.

Interesting post, thanks. So most of this makes sense, but I’m still a bit confused. If we go with the most quoted budget around here of 410cr. Even if you include international collections, 2 days have grossed 160cr (ish), if you assume a good Sunday with similar numbers, it would still need to make another 170cr just to break even? And for that we would need to at least see how it performs during the week before declaring it a hit?
For hit status only domestic collections are considered. And initial days collection are only hype of the stars, the movie continuing is run is about the content. For Brahmastra, with its humongous budget, it would need to run at least for two weeks to be hit. And that would only happen if the story/ content is good.
