It’s not convoluted. I get what your trying to say.

In the context of Rajkumar Rao I think of him like Ranbir. They both have made films I really liked. An they are called great great actors. Tho I doubt either could do a Terminator type of film 😆 Their box offices are up and down. An people continuing to sign them.

I just don’t think the OPs opinion of R.Rao being a bit privileged is wrong.

You don't have to value art. But humanity as a whole does. Which is why Rajkumar is here.

But I never said he shouldn’t get films. For that matter even the topic maker never said that. We are just bringing up his low low success record. An how we believe he’s privileged in a certain extent to get keep getting work with that record. An I’m also envious he got to be in a Mouni Roy music video

And I'm giving you the answer. Production houses don't hire him for box office success. They hire him for art. It's important for them so they can have credibility with a certain kind of investor.

I once worked in academic medicine. The chief of the dept was not the one with most patients, ie most revenue. The chief was the one who brought in most grants. He was also the one with the most research, ie scientific reputation.

RKR is the one who brings in grants and the reputation.

Any box office losses will be written off in the tax sheets.

3. They can include those losses in taxes.

So all those whining about Rajkumar's privilege should understand those movies are not being made with box office success in mind.

I've supported nepokids a lot of times and mentioned the fact the pure commercial value they bring can be used to support actual art. Problem with the likes of Alia and KJo is that

1. They like to pretend they're the greatest artists.

2. If they don't bring art value, they have to bring money.

When they bring neither and keep getting projects, it's something to talk about.

3. (ETA 1) KJo and his ilk flood the market with mediocrity and drown out any actual art while someone like Sidharth Roy Kapoor actually puts money in movies like Yeh Ballet which I'm gonna go out on a limb and bet few have watched. So balance.

ETA 2. Money is important. So is art. If you think humanity came this far based only on money, think again. Leonardo DaVinci based many of his scientific investigations on art he didn't get paid for.
