I enjoy both plot driven and character driven stories. I was just laughing at KJos idea of what is character driven.
Plot driven deals most of the time with external conflicts. Doesn't mean you need to sacrifice character dev. Padmaavat, Simba, 83, Brahmastra looks like one.
Character driven has more to do with inner arc of characters. There is plot, but character dev os primary. Rockstar is an ex. YJHD, Tamaasha, Barfi, etc... also, Gully Boy, Lootera.
What he said abt films like KGF is true though. When BW used to make those OTT films before, critics used to trash them. Even small small things, like Pushpa, they brown faced both Allu Arjun and Rashmika to 'look the part' yet no one criticized them when they should've had but people were up BW's throats when it did the same in Super 30 and Bala.
South films don't even get 1% of the criticism BW gets when they indulge in trash. Take Navarasa for example: the Tamil anthology in Netflix. The biggest names of Tamil cinema came together to produce probably the TRASHIEST anthology. If Bollywood would've done the same, the same critics and public wouldn't let them rest even for a second.
Tried watching KGF and Pushpa, couldn't go past 30 mins. It was that bad

KGF has it own share of trashing but praises and box office collections articles are more than trashes so you didnot find them in the flow.
Coming to Navarasa, yes big names like prudhvi Raj, sidharth where prudhvi Raj played negative character, if i am not wrong. I donot know about the film but that movie came as a recommendation for me as one of the best classics...

The one where he played negative character was different, it was called Paava Kadhaigal. That was a really good anthology and his story with Sai Pallavi was the best and most heartbreaking of the lot. Navarasa was the one that came during the lockdown, it was horrible 🤢

KGF got trashed plenty. So did Pushpa. Thing is also that plenty of quality cinema gets box office success in the south. Not nearly the case in BW.
WOW! This is coming from someone who is bullywood ka PR ka king.

to some extent true, for example the amount of bashing prithvi raj got but acharya or annathe got some bad reviews, flopped and disappeared, the movies were criticised badly but thats it
which also means they really need to introspect why this is happening,
basically it means nothing has changed for south cinema, movies come, if bad/flopped are generally dissed and actors move but there seems to be a huge resentment against hindi stars/industry especially some why?
my take, its their in the face display of their lifestyles, statements totally disconnected from the real world, which is now very visible because of social media, the insta reels etc. basically, they have no connect with the audience or fans who feel they are being taken for granted. the whole isolating of outsiders also got bad them a bad rap. also their core elite audience has moved on while they lost the single screen b-c town audience which the south never lost.
in south the stars are very connected to the fans, watch any pre release event and see the interaction which also means they all have their ear to the ground, also they regularly promote outsider or small movies so nepotism never blew up
in this I would say salman has a more intutive sense
sour grapes 😆Originally posted by: hasini009
Speaking to Film Companion, Karan said, “When I read the reviews of KGF, I’m like if we made this, we would be lynched. But here, everybody is like ‘Oh it was a celebration, a party’ and it was. I loved it. I loved it with all my heart. But I feel hum yeh banaate to? (If we had made this, then?)”
KGF dekhne ki try kiya maine, but mujhse nahi hua. so I don’t know how it is. is it really good, or bad?
Karan sach bol raha hain ya sour grapes reaction?😆
KGF is usual action masala movie tbh (nothing great story wise but execution was really good ) but inn se woh bhi aaj kal accha nahi banta
Cardboard jaise actors miscast karke, useless controversies ke through promotions karke results bhi waise hi milta 🤪
these people do not serve audiences well and then complain about their choices.🤪
P.S : In recent times story wise even Sooryavanshi wasn't impressive either , but the BO results were good as it was entertaining.
He needs to understand that people won’t go to the theatres just for the stars; they’ll for the entertainment, for the experience.
Kjo has the means and creativity to deliver it, but the problem is that he doesn't want to.
Filmmaking is no longer a priority for him; right now, all he wants to do is be Bollywood's godfather.

The article is long but an interesting read. There’s nothing shocking in it as we’ve all discussed paid reviews (samosas) in here many times....
