Alia is exellent but so are other actresses… plzzz watch Yami Gautam in A Thursday… she has acted brilliantly… her acting is so underrrated in that movie… just because she dosent hv a over enthusiastic PR hence its not all over media…

It's unfair to compare Alia to anyone to be honest. There has been no heroine in the past as far as I know who was handed things on a golden platter, having biggest names in bollywood supporting her from the get go, making films specifically written for her, and the ones that are not written for her are being snatched from others and given to her if she puts her finger on it. She is the most privileged star kid ever born in the bollywood history. She got to work with top bollywood directors starting from the beginning of her career itself, that itself helped her hone her acting skills. Even then she is not the best actor out there, there are lot of less known and less privileged actors hustling who are far more talented than her.

By that logic the most talked about star is also not a better actor… I find sanya malhotra, yami gautam or even rashmika madana far better actress than Alia…

I guess the biggest superstar in Bollywood has always been Amitabh Bacchan… no other actor has able to achieve even half of his stardom and he he is a stupendous actor… the rest Salman, Shahrukh and Amir are all in the same league… and in between these three… Shahrukh and Amir they both are incredible actors… no doubt about that… and in actresses if anyone you has been able to match Amitabh’s stardom it’s only Madhuri and there should never be any doubts that she is an incredible actresss… all her movies in which she was central character required her to act and she has never disappointed the audience… none of the movies in which audience has felt cheated ke kya bakwas acting kiii haiiii…

Saajan, Beta, Khalnayak, hum aapke hain kaun, Mrityudand, Devdas…the list is endless

Alia Bhatt is being compared to:

Madhuri in her looks and dancing.

Vidya, Rani, PC, and (rarely) Tabu in her acting.

Madhuri, Sridevi, and Amitabh Bachchan in their box office draw.

And no, she's not being compared to them NOW for fans to mock nay-sayers. She's being compared to them at their PEAK.

Alia is a cute girl. She ain't anywhere close to beautiful. But beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so let's let that one go.

Dancing, unlike acting, can be judged objectively. Utter lack of grace aside, she couldn't even get the steps technically sound. And to compare her with Madhuri!

Vidya, Rani, PC, have their shortcomings, but in the roles they excelled, they excelled. Tabu, of course, can pull off anything.

Alia didn't pull off even that one character of Gangu. She didn't have the necessary chops is very evident. Fans can disagree and point to box office, but Race 3 had better box office, and I don't think anyone of you will say Salman has the acting chops.

Edited to add 1: Alia is not even being called the best in Bollywood. She's simply being called the best. The kid who performed in Sairaat, the girl who did Biryani, Nimisha Sijayan... these are just the few I can name off the top of my head who are miles better than Alia.

Box office: yes, she can draw people in.

Edited to add 2: that is if we discount all the reports of numbers being manipulated to make it a hit. Changing the passing grade from 50% to 35% will give you a pass, but it won't make you actually knowledgeable in your field. If prior hit criterion was distributor profit, changing it for Alia's benefit still leaves the distributors at a loss.

Let's just accept all of it, anyhow, anyway. Let's say the movie is a hit.

But I lived during the Madhuri era. I think she was/is a below average actress, but she was a bona fide box office draw ON HER OWN! That stupid movie called Raja succeeded because of her. Do you think that Sanjay Kapoor or Indra Kumar could've made it the massive hit it was? If Alia happened to be in the same position, that costume drama would've been a hit. And no, Madhuri in it was past her peak. And also no, opening numbers alone don't matter. Like I said, Raja was hit. It didn't simply open well. People didn't care it was bad just like people didn't care Salman movies were bad. Alia is nowhere close to that.

I used to think Deepika and her fans were bad. The last 2 weeks of superlatives spread around about Alia surpassed everything DP gang has done by several orders of magnitude.
