This forum and their knee jerk reaction to everything, I swear, what a joke.

Just a fortnight ago, DP was hyped for her performance in Gehraiyaan, the same people now claim she can't act. So I don't consider opinions seriously here, let alone worthy of deciding whether I should see the film.

This forum went through a similar period when Alia's acting skills were shoved down people's throats during Highway-Kapoor and Sons phase.

Her histrionics are cringe, same auld breakdown, crying scene in every movie, literally feels like some propaganda to weave that notion of greatness.

I don't think people care to even see Madhuri's filmography and who can blame them, films are better written now. So they just extrapolate a song here and there and call that the highlight of her acting.

I've always liked Juhi more but can't deny Mads can pull off drama and comedy, which I don't think many can. She literally carried Raja on her own, can't imagine Aloo doing comedy naturally in a million years.

Alia Bhatt is being compared to:

Madhuri in her looks and dancing.

Vidya, Rani, PC, and (rarely) Tabu in her acting.

Madhuri, Sridevi, and Amitabh Bachchan in their box office draw.

And no, she's not being compared to them NOW for fans to mock nay-sayers. She's being compared to them at their PEAK.

Alia is a cute girl. She ain't anywhere close to beautiful. But beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, so let's let that one go.

Dancing, unlike acting, can be judged objectively. Utter lack of grace aside, she couldn't even get the steps technically sound. And to compare her with Madhuri!

Vidya, Rani, PC, have their shortcomings, but in the roles they excelled, they excelled. Tabu, of course, can pull off anything.

Alia didn't pull off even that one character of Gangu. She didn't have the necessary chops is very evident. Fans can disagree and point to box office, but Race 3 had better box office, and I don't think anyone of you will say Salman has the acting chops.

Box office: yes, she can draw people in. But I lived during the Madhuri era. I think she was/is a below average actress, but she was a bona fide box office draw ON HER OWN! That stupid movie called Raja succeeded because of her. Do you think that Sanjay Kapoor or Indra Kumar could've made it the massive hit it was? If Alia happened to be in the same position, that costume drama would've been a hit. And no, Madhuri in it was past her peak. And also no, opening numbers alone don't matter. Like I said, Raja was hit. It didn't simply open well. People didn't care it was bad just like people didn't care Salman movies were bad. Alia is nowhere close to that.

I used to think Deepika and her fans were bad. The last 2 weeks of superlatives spread around about Alia surpassed everything DP gang has done by several orders of magnitude.

exactly what I believe… Alia fans must be in their la la land if they think Alia’s stardom is anywhere near Madhuri’s…even in acting there are lot of gals who are far far better than Alia… anyone can give a 100 crore hit in Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie… Deepika, Aishwarya, Rani, Priyanka, even Manisha Koirala… to then compare them to Madhuri’s stardom will be outright hilarious

Why not compare it, inflation adjusted, to Big B's up and coming days? Or the number of hits by then. Or the sheer power over the population he enjoyed? News reports from the time he was severely injured will tell you the entire nation was praying for him.

So first it’s “aliaa can’t act”

When she gives good performances it becomes about

“yeh might be able to act but ..she’s not a huge star like shraddha, parineeti is a better actor”

When she draws in box office it becomes about

“Yeh she’s not as gr8 as she’s made out to be..she’s no tabu or Smita patil or rani madhuri”

She keeps giving better performances

“Yeh but she gets things in a platter, someone else could have done better, she took someone else’s opportunity”

“Yeh but she asks for opportunities and begs for roles”

You do realise u went from calling her incompetent to “competent* conditions apply” in a few years …?

Fact is

1. She’s a reliable performer ,

2. She has some amount of pull at the box office by herself and is popular

3. She is tenacious enough to go after the projects she wants …

None of which are bad qualities …

That’s more than what all her contemporaries offer

Regarding pr,

Bollywood media exaggerates everything that dosent mean anyone has to take it seriously or things are being rubbed into their faces …pr work toxic as it is , has become a parcel of big films…83 was a masterpiece , deepika is producer of the decade , allu arjun is the new Bollywood challenger who can give takkar to Bollywood hero’s, sooryavanshi had an “earth shattering” opening

The audience is not being force fed aliaa…she’s been fed the same way as the rest and if they prefer her (as per the box office and hype they fuel) that’s on them….

Sadak 2 was trolled coz it was crap …and aliaa was bad in it too…it was so bad it flopped on OTT

the same audience is now paying for tickets in the theatre to watch gangubai

Ppl are not idiots to blindly believe pr …they will put money where the worth is

A section is also waiting to write her off and scrutinise the tiniest details about her …the fact that she dosent quite give them enough material is also commendable …

But when Alia is compared to Big B at box office, no one's talking about Big B now. They're talking about Alia being the same draw he was at his peak.

Why are we concerned abt what the fans say or think? They will think the highest possible things of their favourites …

How can they colour the view of the entire audience group and influence them?
And if she’s managed to have enough fans to be that influential …maybe she did something right 😂
