I went through it just now. Towards the end, there are other types of discussions too. About how Vanraj wanted to marry Nandini because he just liked her outer beauty. He just married her without even talking to her, seeing her in that Nimbuda dance. And directly on the wedding night, his first interaction with her was him forcing her !!

But, after this part, he became this perfect character; flawless, selfless being, going all the way to unite love birds.. It must have been so many months until that meeting with Sameer; so, staying with Vanraj alone for so long might have made her forget her old love and she started loving Vanraj. This change doesn't sound that unrealistic.

She fell out of love with Salman and fell in love with Ajay by the end. Can this happen in real life? Yeah very realistic, unfortunately.

But did I want to see this in a movie that I usually watch to escape the crappy realities of life? No, it's frustrating to watch.

This film decades over years now

There is only one word for this triangle is 'Destiny'

I don't approve of what that creep man did with his daughter but ultimately Nandini's destiny was Vanraj even when Vanraj brought her back to Italy to unite with Sameer her destiny brought her back to Vanraj

In life sometimes what we desire comes in our life we get attached to & fall in love with it but than destiny has other plans for us. Sameer-Nandini loved each other truly but than destiny had other plans for them they were not each other destiny. Sometimes what we passionately wants we don't get it

Many says that Sameer is immature i don't think so he is jovial and prankster in nature stubborn too but he understands relationships marriage and love. To save one relationship of father-daughter he sacrifice his love,to save a new friend marriage he sacrifice his love and made her go back to him as he understand the meaning of marriage its a bond of above all lifetime relationship. To see his beloved happiness that lies with her husband he sacrifice his love. This is maturity of understanding relationships marriage & love when Nandini told him abt Vanraj selfless love & her marriage w/o even thinking twice he let her go

This is all destiny games both the guys love was true for Nandini. This is the reason Sameer trust came true she did came to meet him crossing seven oceans because his love was true and Vanraj love is also true with such selfless sacrifice his love did came back to him. Both Sameer & Vanraj love was true for Nandini but ultimately destiny wins Nandini was destined for Vanraj

Many even criticise Vanraj act during their SR. He knows nothing abt Nandini's heartbreak & story,all he knew he fall in love with Nandini at first sight now his wife and whatever happened is what he believes normal b/w husband-wife relationship and the believe that even Nandini liked him thus she say yes to the marriage. The backdrop itself is a rural royal backdrop & Vanraj family is conservative and he learn what his family thought him after marriage wife belongs to you. Once he gets to know abt Sameer & Nandini was in love with him he break all norms of marriage, broke all boundaries & limits of marriage for her to unite her with Sameer. He is a selfless guy

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam! Har koi dil deta hai lekin kismat dil nahin dekhta woh khud apna kahani likhta hai aur jo kismat me hota hai wohi hota hai.

Nandini's love is Sameer but her destiny is Vanraj its unfortunate that this destiny game happened due to her selfish father greed of his reputation

I feel bad for Sameer though his love was true but even he can't go against destiny. In the game of destiny true love suffers too. Sometimes you do not get the person you love but live with the few memories that you live with your love thats Sameer

Thats how i see the perspective of this film i don't know whether i like the film or not but the songs are masterpiece the album is a gem

This part of lyrics of Tadap Tadap tells the whole story of HDDCS. Its all Destiny

I will say what I havr said earlier when same topic was made few years ago.

Vanraj was selfless, ready to do anything for Nandini and made any sacrifice for her.

Why would a woman not fall for such a man who cares so much for her and is ready to tolerate her tantrums, risk his and his family's reputation just to reunite her with her lover and takes care of her himself when she gets shot? How many men are like that who will dare to defy own family and society to reunite wife with her lover?

Nandini made absolutely right choice.

Sameer just went away and hoped Nandini would come to him someday. Did he ever make serious attempt to make contact with her or even gatecrash her wedding or elope with her?

How did he think Nandini would come to him someday or keep waiting for him all life while he conveniently went to Italy? What did Sameer ever for Nandini? What risks he took to get love of his life? What sacrifices he made for her?

One should always choose those who choose you first and will do anything for your happiness even if means losing own self respect. Any sensible woman would choose Vanraj after all he did for her.

Vanraj is a gentleman. He never violated boundaries with Nandini and did not even assert rights he had legally as a husband. Who'd abandon such a man who is willing to do anything for you?

I didn't like that ending either.

Vanraj proved himself to be a good and selfless person as the story progressed, sacrificing a lot for Nandini's sake, but I also don't agree with the idea that duty and gratitude is enough to make a good/happy relationship (which was never explicitly stated in the film, I know)- but that is the message that ended up being conveyed.

But I guess if you look at it one way, Nandini did the smartest thing in that situation... she chose the guy she knew put her above everything else over the guy she couldn't have been sure at that point would have done the same...

But whatever it is, that ending still leaves a bad taste, especially considering the father's actions earlier in the film, and it's implicit justification of the same...

Looking back the film does look like it was cleverly and sensitively written but by someone with fairly regressive views, that they managed to package in a way that it all makes sense as per the story.
