Exactly. Imagine comparing a comedian like Govinda to Salman or any other Khan in 90s. Govinda has not a single yearly top grosser or ATBB whereas Salman gave HAHK, MPK, HDDCS, HSSH, Saajan, Judwa, Jeet, Pyar kiya toh darna kya in 90s itself that are bigger grossers than any Govinda film.

For that matter even Aamir has more yearly top grossers than Govinda in 90s. Raja Hindustani is ATBB and Dil is HGOTY.

It is understandable that ones who could never match success of any one of 3 Khans are now hijacking topics on Khans to claim some Govinda or Akki or whatever is bigger than Khans.

Naah.

Comparisons are made between actual top grossing stars and actors. Not also rans.

Yup I was brought up in the 90s and would have scoffed if anybody suggested that Govinda is even at par with Bhai's popularity, forget exceeding him.

But Govinda excelled at his genre, and few years back I'd met a Britisher who said he followed Bollywood only for Govinda's movies, and stopped watching it completely once Govinda retired (let's not talk about his recent comeback 💀)

Govinda actually stood at #4 after Khans and Sunny Deol in 90s. David Dhawan comedies saved him.

He excelled at dance and slapstick comedy. But became irrelevant soon due to bad choice of films and doing same slapstick comedy again and again.

BTW, his only success after 1999 is Partner in 2007, which became a hit thanks to Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif who had earlier given hit film Maine Pyar Kyu Kiya in 2005.

Salman never tasted stardom later. His debut MPK itself was an ATBB and few years later he gave another ATBB in HAHK. He gave hits like Saajan, Sanam Bewafa, Patthar ke Phool, Judwa, Jeet, HSSH, Pyar kiya toh darna kya, Biwi no.1, Jab Pyar kisi se hota hai, Dulhan Hum Le jayenge etc in 90s itself. When Akshay was a nobody and just had Mohra, Khiladi, Yeh Dillagi and Waqt Hamara hai as few hits.

Only someone who ignores 90s would say Salman tasted stardom later. He was neck to neck and even toppled SRK many times till 2000. Even in his low phase in 2000s he gave hits like Tere Naam, Maine Pyar kyu kiya, No Entry, Wanted.

Dabangg of course later took his stardom to another level.

I am old enough to remember that Salman became a star overnight when Maine Pyar Kiya released in 1989. He was immensely popular throughout 90s, his fan-following was insane even at that time and he delivered the biggest hits of the decade. Even during his low phase in early 2000s (due to issues in his personal life), he delivered some of the most memorable roles. Salman's flop movies make more money than the hits of other stars. His stardom became superstardom after Wanted and Dabangg.

People born after 2000 think Salman became a superstar after Wanted lol. They should have seen the craze and long lines outside cinemas every time a Salman movie released in 1990s and 2000s. The public craze for him started as soon as Maine Pyar Kiya hit the screens and it is still going strong 32 years later.

Usko films nahi mil rahe the toh Salim khan ne ek fake news failayi ki koi bada banner ne sign kiya tab jaa kar usko film mili

Aur HAHK toh Superstar Madhuri ki film thi, payment bhi double tha uska aur film bhi uski vajah se chali

Govinda, Varun, Ayushman ko koi Superstar kyun nahi bol raha hai, Hits toh in logon ne bhi di hai

Main yeh nahi bol raha ki Salman star nahi tha par Superstar 2010 se hi bana yeh fact hai. Akshay bhi star tha 1990s se par pichle paanch saal se Superstar bana varna Khiladi series bhi kaafi hit thi uski bhi 😆

Aamir Khan definitely has a better film Portfolio than Salman Khan or SRK . He is excellent at picking up scripts, not many actors have this script choice but if good scripts alone would have ensured success things would have been differenrt.

Aamir Khan needs a good film to be successful and he has learnt to pick them post Lagaan because he does not have the same popularity as SRK or Salman Khan. In pre-internet days when trolling was unheard of Ram Jaane was trolled mercilessly but it was a hit. Aamir Khan would have never have been able to pull off a Ram Jaane.
