Post-COVID scenario for Bollywood: bleak??

Chandigarh Kare Ashiqui minted 3.75 crores on its opening day whereas Ayushmann films usually mint 10 crores or so. I believe 83 collected only 12 crores, which is Ranveer's lowest opening in ages.

Do we blame this all on COVID or is there any other reason for the dismal opening of films nowadays?

Before anyone brings Sooryavanshi into the equation, it had Rohit Shetty + Akshay Kumar + Katrina combination, and it would have definitely got an even bigger response pre-2020.

Don't forget Bell Bottom grossed only 30 crores lifetime.

2019 was the best year in Bollywood history for movie collections. But now, audiences are reluctant to even venture into theatres, thanks to options available on OTT + the comfort watching from home.

I refuse to believe it is only COVID that is dictating the moods of audiences, it's an entire shift in the movie-going audiences, part of which has now converted to OTT.

I think COVID was just the trigger that pushed people into a different direction of movie-watching.

Future of Bollywood is not bright.

The same people who put down Bollywood for nepotism go lick the behinds of the likes of Allu Arjun, Prabhas , Jr.NTR and Charan- who are the EPITOMES of Nepotism. I mean the hypocrisy is at another level😆

Let’s see where this will all take us. Hopefully BW folks will learn to overcome this phase by coming up with even better content. 👍🏼

I agree with you Minty. Pre Covid, I would rush to the cinema to watch a film I was waiting for but since the pandemic has struck, I'm wary. Not only is it because going out poses a risk but because I have been watching Netflix and Amazon Prime since the year began and the content is brilliant. I have no inclination to ditch such amazing content and drag myself to a cinema.

I genuinely, don't see the purpose.

I went to watch Nomadland (an Oscar winning film, apparently and I literally fell asleep. Lol.)

I feel it's the pandemic, combined with a genuine lack of interest from the public in some of these films/actors...
