Thanks Chameli, absolutely nothing to be boasting about..

And looking at replies in this thread I can already tell why people don't speak Hindi.. the justifications being provided are so absurd.. No offence..

Oh none taken. You are the one who is getting offended because apparently someone else is not taking pride in ‘their’ mother tongue. The assumptions, the judgement and the feeling offended is at another level altogether. Hopefully you find your peace!

It depends with what intention English is spoken. If it’s just spoken as the most comfortable language for the speaker, or May be it’s spoken as a common language for people to understand - it’s all ok imho

but if it’s spoken because speaker thinks it’s superior to other languages, or as a style statement - then they have one more language to learn of being humble 😆

English Medium movie has dialogue by Irrfan Khan that English in this country is Status. Bar for education.

BW actors sure love to take pride in not knowing Hindi when their bread and butter is Hindi. Especially this new gen.

I did half of my schooling in Delhi and this was the case there. Anyone who spoke Hindi was mocked and laughed at, and several students who spoke perfectly good Hindi pretended to not know Hindi at all. It absolutely is a status symbol in North India.

Allu Arjun is really good and even his accent is not bad.

BW Stars do build a superiority complex wherein they try to speak in English only and pretend they are bad in Hindi. Heights is they converse in English even with their children! Does that make their kids super smart?

In their mind set, they try to associate themselves with America which is denoting power and put on the fake accent to be part of them.

All pretensions and feeling inferior about their roots and even the work they do. They always make HW superior.

PS: when the reporter is comparing him to Sallu, he must be laughing on the inside.. Salman in not even close to him atleast in this life time..

He might be comfortable in Hindi, but it isn't his native language if I'm not mistaken. So if he's speaking another language any way, why not speak in one that will reach more viewers?

Or he might simply be more comfortable in English. Language is only a medium of communication, man. Nothing inferior or superior about it.

Reminds me of a street vendor in NYC back when. Dude started chastising me for asking him for roasted nuts in English instead of Hindi. Dumbass. As though there is only language spoken by Indians. Patriotism just boils over after you immigrate to another country. Otherwise, when you're in India, people go overboard trying to hammer English into children.

I have observed south actors are really humble compared to Btown actors. Even Dhanush's hindi from Atrangi re trailer gives great vibe. They may have that south accent but atleast they make an effort. I was watching Kapil Sharma show other day with Vaani and Hritik and Vaani despite knowing hindi was replying to Kapil's questions in English. I found it very weird.😕

What's humble or otherwise about speaking a language? it's people's delusion that speaking English makes them superior.

On another note, Dhanush spoke Hindi in the movie. Otherwise, it's not his mother tongue AFAIK. If he chooses to speak in English in a Bollywood interview, he doesn't need to be castigated for it, either. I'm pretty sure if you pick any Malayalam actor, they'd be more comfortable answering questions in English any day than in Hindi. In fact, I doubt any of them would be able to string a coherent sentence together in Hindi.

The one you are appreciating here Allu Arjun, speaks in English in almost all of his local interviews even though he was mostly addressing the Telugu speaking audience. Why? Because he knows by speaking in English he can expand his audience.

Actors don’t care if we think they are educated/posh/intelligent or not anymore than having more number of eye balls paying attention to what they were doing/saying.

Moreover, this is 2022 and we should seriously get over these silly language barriers and not give it anymore importance than a tool which helps us get around.

No, language is much more than just a medium to get around. Language is a matter of pride for many people. In France, they fought for their language when German was imposed on them during World War I. Bangladeshis fought to death to have Bengali as their state language.

Language matters. And to me at least, people who can't string a sentence together in their native language should be ashamed of themselves, unless they were living abroad or something.

This is exactly the reason why most do the younger generations dialogue delivery and pronunciation is so atrocious.

I was reading that most actors now don’t even read scripts in Hindi.. English mein likhay miltay hain…. Iss tarha…

Of course anyone is free to speak in any language they are comfortable in, but if you are going to be working in Hindi movie industry then at least be well versed in the language and don’t butcher it, every time you open your mouth.

actors like big b, srk and hrithik have excellent command over Hindi which shows in their dialogue delivery… while the younger lot… less said the better…

someone here mentioned hrithik not speaking in Hindi… I can’t seem to tag them but would to like point out that hrithik not only took hindi but Urdu speaking tuitions before debuting which shows in his clearly he speaks in movies…

In candid and non rehearsed interviews he prefers English cause due to his stuttering issue he took therapy for years which was in English… he literally has to practice to this day and has to repeat this words in mind before speaking them out loud, that’s why he prefers English
