It's probably the reputation she had. For most composer it was a dream to work with her.Alka was replaced around 2005 till that point she was quite dominant. It was also easier to move towards newer singers since they were very talented. Udit and Sonu Nigam dominated till mid 2000's after this they got replaced. 2010's had far more label interference and so after 2013 most singers work reduced and the music industry went downhill.

for udit yes after veer zaara he had less work but Sonu main dominance was their till 2009-2010 , with films like dabang KANK , faana , humko dewana kargaye , om shanti om , blue , main and mr khana , yuvraj, garam masala , 3 idots, rabne bana di, kismat konnection, hey baby, jodha akbar, raaz 2, Salam e isqh, aaja nachle , salam namaste, Parineeta, jab v meet etc etc ... and yes for shreya goshal too in female singers

Lord knows! Lata completely ruined the Veer Zaara songs for me and sucked my tears dry when her shrill voice started singing. I’ve never been a fan of Lata, so I couldn’t even tell you why she’s even rated to begin with. The only time I did like her singing was when she sung the Saatyam Shivam Sundaram title track. That’s her best performance till date for me.

Lata is pure magic in 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s and early 80s songs. Especially in 1950s.

It is unfair and harsh to say why she is rated at all or judge her entire career based on her clearly deteriorated voice in Veer Zaara in old age.

Anuradha paudwal would be a better substitute for veer zara

I don't get the Shreya comment but anyway Sonu Started declining a lot after 2006. Afterwards he was only used by specific composers for specific songs unlike before. I wouldn't call that dominance.2000's Pritam and KK's partnership, than there was the sudden rise of Shaan after Chand sifarish, Atif Aslam, Mohit Chauhan and their raw singing style became more desirable. Than Arijit Singh replaced them all.

Sonu was singing for all between 2006 and 2009 be it rehman or pritam or, vishal sehker, shankar ehsan loy, sajid wajid these were the only composers than.... Atif aslam only had one song in race film and one song from Kismat konnection then, kk was on par with sonu but unlike sonu, kk never got to sing for mainstream actors of that era the khan's or kumars,.. Kk was limited to emran hashmi films.. mohit chuhan was rose to real fame from 2010 rocks tar... Even shaan had a lesser ratio of songs compare to kk or sonu both between 2006 to 2009... The amount of popularity shaan deserve he never got because 2000 was the era of tough cut throat compititon... And it was much more healthier than 90s kumar sanu udit or abhijeet one

I don’t like high pitched voices so I beg to differ in regards to the pure magical aspect of her singing. If you like her then that’s great. Not my cup of tea though. 😊

Shes an excellent singer

I know that Yasj wanted Lata to sing JTHJ songs too but Adi convinced him not to...and he had to explain it to Lata, who I heard was under contract with Yash.

Aditya Chopra made the right choice. Lata's voice would never have suited Katrina and Anushka. She sounded like Preity's granny in Veer Zaara. I can only imagine how bad her voice would sound for Katrina and Anushka in JTHJ.

I am kind of glad she has cut down on her work now and we do not have to see her sing for even younger girls like Alia, Sara, Ananya, Jhanvi, Mrunal etc.
