She is a mom who will soon cause claustrophobia to her daughter. The kinds who will choose her friends, choose her every smallest of life decisions leaving the daughter hapless. Abhishek should step in and save her.

The luxury class appeal does not work after a certain age.

Finally I do not think she has had a tough life or there is no one to care for her kid. Nor do I think she neglects her looks and health. She is quite fit for her age and her make up is never 'less'.

I wonder if she does not want to do commonplace ads then why she did pressure cooker ad with Abhishek some years ago?

Madhuri did not take break for decade. She returned in 2007. Her last big film was in 2002. That is not a decade.

Karishma did try reality shows and ads. Attempted a comeback film which failed. I would not compare with Karishma as her marriage was abusive and she may not have been in a position to focus on her career or looks.

Aishwarya may have decided to cut down on her work on her own but influence of her orthodox in laws cannot be entirely discounted, given what they did to Jaya in past.

I think she has always been a bit traditional, she has always been a bit family oriented and Abhishek has always looked incredibly supportive of her. He gets mocked for being less successful and only jokes about it. He was there with her when she got lifetime Beauty with a purpose award at Miss World, the Ellen show where he made everyone laugh.

Her daughter is always totted by Aish.. She was in tears when there were kids around along with her daughter at an event and the paps were creating so much noise and not listening. She seems to be living a happy life that she always wants, also doing a lot of movies will take away a lot of time from her daughter.

Abhishek has just started getting good work after a long time so it makes sense for him to take it. Aish has had a better, longer career than him any day. She was already doing movies before he even debuted. She isn't web series material.

As for Jaya, she seems to be good to her bahu, even scolding paps for calling he "Aish". I think Jaya is a good person, she is very much like every elderly woman who demands respect.

Even in a much older videos with Karishma (at the time he was engaged to her), she was really careful and gentle with her.

And its not like they are 24*7 with each other. They must have so many properties around. the world and keep visiting, they have an apartment in Mumbai too. AB sr. is working most of the time so I hardly think he has much time to control the family. With wife, its a different thing, he was recently complaining about everyone in the family being occupied with their phones on Diwali etc, rather than spending time.

They probably just live "together" in a huge mansion.

I do not think any company would drop Ash and choose a non celeb like Shweta to endorse them and get her to inaugurate their showrooms instead of someone like Ash.

Amitabh does do combo deals with his family members for brands he endorses. He did Kalyan ad with Jaya, Shweta and earlier did Versa ad with Abhishek. He has done Kalyan ads with Ash earlier.

Ash is not even invited to KBC special episodes and was not there on family covers the way Jaya did cover for Vogue with Shweta and Navya and Amitabh did Hello magazine covers with Shweta. Though it is their choice whether they choose to do photo shoots with daughter or DIL, but Ash is mostly out of limelight and ads, magazine covers featuring Bachchan family. Now whether Sr Bachchans did it or she consciously chose to avoid covers, ads, shows - that is something no one can know.

I have seen Jaya Bachchan saying things like 'she is quiet, she listens, she stands behind' and Amitabh calling her 'domesticated' in 2007.

Their expectations from her are easy to guess especially if reports of Jaya B angry at Ash's scenes in ADHM or Filmfare photo shoot with Ranbir or kiss with HR in D2 are true.

I personally feel Ash has begun to slowly step back because she does not want her husband to get brickbats and trolling for being less successful than her. Or her MIL and SIL feel insecure about her work and success.

Of course she wants to focus on her family and daughter but her daughter is not so little now that she cannot even leave her for a while to do a mere ad.

I think Ash is realistic enough to know she cannot get the kind of work or fees she used to get till 2010. But has consciously stepped back probably to keep her in laws at peace and save her husband from comparisons and trolling he gets for being less famous than her (he is always trolled and told he did not deserve Ash or he got a wife like Ash only because he is Amitabh's son).

I do not mind Ash's ageing or looking tired. I never thought she looked sad though. She looks calmer and happier with her daughter and her Insta is full of happy family pics. She has advantage over Jaya in the sense that her husband is nice and loyal to her unlike his dad was to his mom.

She'd probably be happier and more free if Jaya B was not around.

I feel Ash has purposely chosen to take a backseat for sake of peace in the family and to avoid or minimise any drama or backlash/trolling she gets for films or photo shoots she does.

Or who knows she may have tried for a second child and cut down on her work for that reason?

I said any reason could be there. Just that influence of the nature of her in laws is a factor that cannot be entirely dismissed. Bachchans and Kapoors are kind of orthodox. They are not like Pataudis for eg, who have never stopped their family women (daughters or DILs) from doing whatever they wanted.

I'd be surprised if Aaradhya is allowed a career in showbiz as long as senior Bachchans are alive.

That said Ash must have known what she was getting into when she married into that family. So she chose that life for herself. Her husband seems supportive and nice but her in laws...IDK.

@bold: I think that very much is the case. Do anyone remember what Jaya said about Aish when she had come on Koffee with Karan all those years ago? It showed how orthodox the family is.

I don't think she looks sad at all. She looks like a contented housewife, who is focused on her family. Her weighty issues notwithstanding, she still looks stunning. And I don't think it's imperative to hit the gym to be happy. I've never hit the gym in my life and am a very happy person.

Even our own parents don’t approve of everything we do, we have to convince them or find ways. That’s Indian family for you. 😆

If her husband doesn’t have a problem with her doing romantic scenes, which she did anyways; even if her in laws have an issue, at most they would have expressed their displeasure. Jaya even called HNY a crap movie which her son was a part of. That doesn’t mean she is a controlling what he is doing. They seem pretty independent IMO.

Also, the kajra re song, given their relationship now makes me cringe. But the trio still perform it whenever they get chance. Traditional families are not like that 😆

I think she’s conscious. She has a very restrained personality. She emotes/ expresses best when she’s dancing.
