She was the no.1 actress of the 2000s, there's no disputing that. She had the hits and the popularity. She ruled the roost despite the ill-treatment meted out to her by the Khans.

Known for beauty etc. is a matter of subjective opinion. But one cannot deny the sheer cultural impact she created in Bollywood and in South cinema.

OT, she couldn't make it big due to her own limitations: no nudity, no kissing scenes, sex scenes etc. She refused to shift base to LA and wanted to continue working out of Mumbai. She refused to give up Indian cinema and wanted to balance both. Result: It was a half-assed effort and obviously that didn't get results.

She had the likes of Will Smith and Brad Pitt dying to work with her and she let those opportunities pass. If she made even 10% of the effort of a Priyanka Chopra, she would definitely have been up there amongst the biggest crossover stars like Penelope Cruz.

She only did 5 English films. Out of them, Bride and Prejudice was successful, Provoked received critical acclaim, Pink Panther 2 was a moderate BO success. The other two got panned and were flops.

Having said that, she was the first Indian actor to have made waves globally, even if it was mostly for her beauty. She is the one to have made the maximum global impact with minimal efforts.

Pretty much. Nothing else to add.

Except perhaps, Aishwarya was never as ambitious as Priyanka, Deepika, or Alia.

Hollywood recognition isn't something everyone craves. You can see what's happening between Scarlett Jo and Disney.

Some people are happy with what they have, where they are. Simple.

She ruined her potential. Who refuses Will Smith? 🤔

True about the nudity and sex scenes, but I think she has done a kissing scene in Bollywood in the past?

Wrong. 😉 Aish made it to #1 with HDDCS/Taal in 1999, HDAPH/Josh/Mohabbatein in 2000, Devdas in 2002, Dhoom 2 in 2006, Guru in 2007, and Jodhaa Akbar in 2008. What are you talking about? 😲

She had at least 9/10 big films at least in her career. And Khakee, Sarkar Raj, Bride and Prejudice, Robot, plus Guzaarish gave her some boosts. These are facts, check all the success of these movies online.

Of course a little more hard work will get you a little more success but in Aish's case who knows how much success that would've been. Beauty can only take one so far. You need talent, you need to work hard and then the right opportunity needs to arise. Aish's looks are "ethnically ambiguous", there are lots of hot girl in cocktail dress roles available for people who look like her but very few of those roles are of merit. Even if she had done Hitch (which I don't believe she was offered like that but feel free to share interview, I will change my mind) who the heck would've cared? Who?! What did Hitch do for Eva's character? Nothing.

There is no substance in her acting and Her look is nothing special in west. As simple as that.

And most likely she was not that keen on getting work there as well.

I don't know if she was offered any Will Smith movies or not but she would have never ever ever agreed to play a romantic lead opposite a black guy. India was busy making racist movies like Fashion around that time where the ultimate downfall of a woman is her sleeping with a black man. The desi audience would have never accepted their fair princess with light eyes kissing and doing romantic scenes with Will Smith. Aish would have never agreed. Everything else is just an excuse.

The main reason HW movies throw in Indian actors in supporting roles is to make inroads into India which is a huge market. They're hoping the Indian actor will help the box office...in India. Will Smith doesn't need Ash for jack as far as HW is concerned. She would have been required to pull her weight in India. And India would have never accepted that pairing so it was always going to be a no go.

Anyway, making it during the days when only theatrical movies were available was much harder. Now there is Netflix/Amazon/Hulu/Disney where you don't need real star power which makes things much, much easier.

True ..she is known for her beauty and she's drop dead gorgeous!

She lacks emotions, expression and overact most of the times. even Italian author criticisesed Ash for bad acting in his movie the Last Legion.

She didn't put the effort in she could have. Ash's true self is Indian. She could never move to the states and play the game that PC does. She's not fake that way despite what people about her. Deep down she's more traditional than people know so she wasn't able to do the type of movies HW wanted her to do

Same with the way she took 5 years off from limelight after becoming a mother when other actresses weren't following this trend.

It's clear how she prioritized family over her career and it showed. I was pissed off with her for this reason a few years ago but kya karein, it's her life... she should do what she likes. Now that I am older, I am more understanding of her decisions.

Regarding PC, I don't know. She isn't doing any stellar work career wise. She did better work when she was working here. She hasn't produced any good work since Bajirao Mastani and that was six years ago. But yes, it's clear that her priorities are more towards "global domination," a phrase which she repeatedly utters, and not so much a family life.

PC sounds like she’s living a dream…

I used to find it strange she married Nick but now I understand why.
