What is wrong in not being perfect...enjoying beauty and glamor.....I don't see anything wrong if someone wants to do makeup to look better if that makes them feel good....you are talking from your perspective but not everyone thinks like you...and no one is wrong as long as they are not doing anything wrong....we all can't be saints...just because someone wants to look younger it makes them superficial....isn't it superficial to judge someone just because they want to look younger?....May be a mother, who cares for her kids and family, works another job..is educated....and still gets botox done because she wants to look younger...will be superficial according to you?? well that is a superficial way to judge some I would say..😆

What is so hilarious about my post that you're laughing? I didn't even make any personal attack on you. I thought I put my point across respectfully but you're mocking me with laughing emojis?

I suppose you can't have a healthy debate with anyone on this forum.

Anyway, I know Bollywood makes movies for entertainment. Everyone knows that duh. But you don't need good looking people to make entertaining movies. People want to watch fair, good looking, young people, because again, they think only these type of people deserve to be watched on screen. Why? Because like I said, people are superficial.

That's their mentality, and I already told you why such mentality shouldn't be encouraged. Because society gives too much importance to looks. An old woman getting botox to look young is again because of society's pressure to look young and beautiful. Is judging her makes me superficial? Maybe. Because I'm human as well. I'm not above others.

Not judging people by their looks doesn't make people saints, but acting like it doesn't affect people surely makes them ignorant.

No you are wrong..people don't have to be superficial because they want to get entertained for a few hours...nothing wrong in that....a woman can dress up, do makeup and try to look young because it makes her feel better....maybe some women are under pressure to look better...but most of them do because it makes them feel good about them selves....don't give a blanket statement about a group of people...and I was laughing because that superficial wala logic was hilarious but if you felt bad I apologize to you...sorry.

There is nothing to laugh. Humans are superficial, at least when it comes to looks. That's why Bollywood doesn't have an overweight black guy as a lead hero. Entertainment is not an excuse, because actors do set benchmarks for common people.

You're telling me not to give blanket statements about people but you're yourself giving a blanket, statement by saying that most women do makeup to feel good about themselves. How do you know that? Women do makeup because society has conditioned them to do it. Looks have been considered important for women since inception.

This makes it not a blanket statement..

Wanting to watch good looking people on screen will not make me superficial....unless in real life I discriminate based on looks....it is as simple as that....as long as I remember that a movie is just for entertainment. I am good....otherwise....for wanting anything out of the ordinary...I would be called superficial...a bigger house..superficial...a better car ...superficial...a branded bag/sunglasses/shoes/perfume...superficial....even if I like these things...chances are that I might not be superficial...😊

Okay, so I should've used the word "most" to not make it a blanket statement?

Since we're using semantics, you better know that I didn't make any blanket statement either. If Bollywood audience watches glamorous movies with fair good looking, young people, then yes, they're being superficial.

You watch movies in real life only dear, not in your dreams...and since you only choose to watch fair good looking people in movies, dark not so good looking people don't get a chance..so yes you're discriminating there.

Like you said, choosing something out of the blue is one thing, but Bollywood audience clearly have a preference of a certain type.

And I better make it clear that by "superficial", I meant people who judge someone by their looks. So giving preference to a certain house, bag, sunglasses etc. would not make you superficial unless you're choosing it by how it looked.

Actually, it's mainly because only young people go to the theater especially on the first weekend. If a movie doesn't appeal to young people, you are already setting it up to flop. Older people go later once they hear a movie is good or they just wait until it comes on streaming. I know when I was 15, I didn't like watching movies with old people in it. I didn't even like books that had older characters because I couldn't relate to it.

Now with Netflix, you are seeing all these older actors like Pooja Bhatt and Bobby Deol being resurrected because older people watch their content when it's available on streaming at home. The situation for theatrical movies is different. Even the older actors with star power will always be presented to be younger as long as they are still the ones drawing in the crowds.

This excuse only works if audience only watched young people. But they watch not only young, but fair and fit people acting in movies.

And who are these young actors? The so-called young generation in Bollywood is of Ranbir, Ranveer who are nearing 35. Even the youngest bankable star among them would've at least passed 30. The common people among this age group would've a family of their own to go and watch a movie in the first weekend itself.

The young people you're talking about would be in their 20s, but no actor of that age is currently bankable.

That's my point. It doesn't matter what their real age is. They're going to play younger to appeal to younger crowds. Ranveer was playing a college kid in Gully Boy so around 20 at most. Their age is never clearly stated but they basically play guys in their 20s. Ranbir is forever coming of age in almost all his movies. His character's concerns are the types a 25 year old would have.

Salman is 55 and was laughably playing a character in his 20s in Radhe - the heroine spends half the movie thinking he's a struggling new model and calls him a cute boy multiple times. That's why it got bashed so much because he looked like a grandpa while he was pretending to be so young. You can play younger but it has to be believable in a way that the audience will buy it. It was a bad and trashy movie but it would have worked if Ranveer was in it instead.

Regarding fair and fit, those are beauty standards in India and almost everywhere. I agree with you that people are superficial. I'm sorry but I don't want to watch chubby people with their rolls jiggling as they walk unless the characterization is about that. There have been psychological experiments done and even babies automatically prefer more beautiful looking people. It's in-built in us by nature. Back in the day, before modern technology, a person who had clear skin, shiny hair, and fit body would be an indication that they are healthy and disease-free. It's naturally more appealing to us for that reason.

Why shouldn't an industry be based on looks on glamor.....its an industry....like any other industry...why shouldn't actors try to look younger or better ...its a part of their career.....would you not ask a computer programmer to learn a new language if that is required for him to grown in his career.....then why are you asking actors to not do whatever is required for them to further themselves??

BW makes glamorous movies with good looking people....and the audience that enjoys it watches it....you don't like it then go watch a documentary.....but you can't dictate how a freaking industry should run...don't be a part of that industry ...don't promote that industry by watching their movies...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with actors or models trying to look better....sometimes they succeed ..sometimes they fail.....Going by your logic.....we shouldn't have the billion dollar make up industry or the designer wear industries making outfits or shoes or bags or sunglasses anything...because we all can look just the way we are...why even put makeup on or wear nice clothes.

Sorry dont want to discuss anymore. Too much to and fro and will def not read such discombobulated dotted whatever you are trying to tell me. Sorry wont listen, not worth it. Not going to get into it. So lets agree to disagree. Such spirited discussion about it being okay for people to be vain about appearances. No, not for me. Peace out
