I believe that movie changed the audience expectations from him. Before that, his movies like Ready, Bodyguard were as bad as Race 3 or Radhe now, but at least they used to work at BO

Bhai had to reinvent himself.

When Ready and Bodyguard released audience was in complete Bhai madness. So those crap films became Blockbusters. But then audience started feeling fatigue with Bhai's similar type of masala movies, and it showed with Dabangg 2, Jai Ho and Kick underperformance at box office.

So he started exploring different genres which sometimes worked (Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan) and sometimes didn't (PRDP, Tubelight).

TZH was kind of a fluke as it was better than ETT and also because of Salman returning back to doing action after a long time since Kick.

Ready and Bodyguard were mindless masala films but not straight up trash like Race 3 or Radhe. At least they had decent music and a semblance of a storyline. It perhaps helped that they were remakes of hit South films, which is not the case with Race 3 or Radhe.

He needs to go back to remaking Telugu movies.

Expectations weren’t the problem. The problem was thinking keep doing movies with the same directors and it’ll be fine. An that does not mean the followup Tubelight was all the directors fault. That film was a failure on all parts. An then he made Remo do Race 3 when the dance movie would’ve been fine.

Kick & Dabang 2 were blockbusters as per BOI

Yes, they were Blockbusters. But they still underperformed in context of the expectations people had from them and how much other Blockbusters earned around the same time.

Dabangg 2 was expected to break the record of 3 Idiots after how close ETT came in breaking the record. But it barely crossed the lifetime collections of Dabangg 1 and had only 2 Crore footfalls despite being the sequel of a popular film.

Kick released one year after Chennai Express and still barely crossed the latter's lifetime figures, that also because of hiked ticket prices. Otherwise again CE had more footfalls than Kick.

The same year Aamir released PK and created the 300 Crore club. Bhai knew he would never be able to match those figures with his mindless masala movies. So he had to invest in making quality scripts for his movies.

See this is the reason that SRK and Aamir's bad movies don't work because people have high expectations from them...its not that they are any less than Salman in stardom...the same is happening to Salman now.....people remember Bajrangi, Sultan, ETH and now they have expectations of atleast a decent move from him.....and now the bad movies are flopping left right and center.....but I would take the Salman from whom people expect movies like Bajrangi....over the Salman that gave block busters even with shit movies...

No, Bajrangi extended his career by a few more years or else people would have gotten tired of him earlier. You can release crap movies here and there if a crowd-pleasing one comes in-between sometimes. It's the same reason why Aamir is able to get away with horrible stuff like Dhoom 3 and Thugs sometimes.
