Yes obviously the number of screens is less considering not many Hindi speaking people live there. But Hindi movies definitely got screened and I got to watch a few of them there without any hassle.

I used to stay at Thiruvanmiyur & the only mall which I found screened hindi movies was Express Avenue mall. I forgot the name of the multiplex it housed but not PVR or Inox for sure.

Might be a case of bad research too though. My hostel mates were not very helpful and they kinda found it annoying that I want to watch Hindi movie. My roommate even took me with her to watch a Telugu movie with English subtitles😆😆

There are many reasons

1) Which is last hindi movie entire india remembers be it south, east, west and north - Sholay, Mughal e azam etc so one is 45 year old another 60 year old movie

2) when is last hero which entire india know north south east west and rural - amitabh bachchan and dilip kumar and rajesh khanna now i think its prabhas after bahubhali

OK many do not know who SRK, salman, amir is in south or east etc villages

3) who is last heroine known everywhere - madhuri dixit and sridevi and hema malini (after madhubala, nargis, meena kumari)

4) which is a movie that has recall movie after 40 to 50 years with everyone - sholay and mughal e azam are only two movies

So now you know why no hindi movies not there list - because its more than 50 years since a pan india actor came n bollywood after amitabh bachchan

If you think SRK, salman,, amir, hrithik etc are super stars and known in entire india thats a big lie

Real super star are known in villages too in south, north, east or west and thats only amitabh bachchan and dilip kumar may be not even rajesh khanna

rajesh khanna is more known thru his songs which are heard all over india

but people even 90 year olds know a dilip kumar in village and a amitabh bachchan in a remote village , labourers, farmers to city folks now only these two from 10 years to 99 years of age

Even those who have never spoken hindi or never watched hindi movie know whose dilip kumar and AB Sr or a madhubala and nargis

thats real super stardom

why is it like that? Go figure out

I think hindi serial hero/heroines of hit serials are more famous than SRK, salman, amir all over world

People have faint memories HAHK & DDLJ, however.

The last new movie I saw and I rewatched 3 or 4 times was Kabir Singh

Content is the king these days and most concepts in BW are stollen. Gone are the days of movies like KHNH which has been loved across the globe among even non desis. Most movies are filled with those Sallu action scenes, or rom coms which have nothin innovative in them. Even actors are all concerned about good looks than acting, especially with plethora of nepo kids coming in the last decade. In early 2000s, only nepo kids who had talent survived, the rest of them have disappeared like Esha Deol. But these talentless ones keep getting trashier movies!

I think ... there is no specific incentive to watch a Bollywood movie . South movies did a lot of catching up telling universal (pan India ) stories which Bollywood used to do more in the past . Now a regional movie caters to every kind of audience and making all kinds of movies with equal budget .

South used to make movies with stories that are native To the area.., in the past . So , Bollywood has a certain appeal . Bollywood now is still stuck in the past ..:I mean for example Aditya chopra is making DDLj every time he directs . I did not watch kabir Singh , but Arjun reddy movie was 50% English and 50% Telugu It still worked at BO.

Some of South Tier 2 movies (non high budget or out and out commercial masala) are excellent.

We have better stories being told with south female stars. So far even with Much better Box office records .

South is also making better thrillers . South comedy movies scaled up . We have better dance numbers ... Bollywood lost its exclusivity.

lol this is such a weak comparison... if you look at the box offfice of the last 30-40 years.. theres only bollywood dominating, even look at the current top 20 you will see all of it are Hindi/bollywood movies outside Bahabuli and 2.0

your comparison is like Avatar (non bollywood) and marvel cinematic universe (Bollywood)

Avatar might be the highest grossing movie of all time ( i know its avenger now but for argument sake) but its Marvel that has been dominating the box office for years with each of of its movies,

1 or 2 movies making it to top 5 doesnt mean its dominating the box office.. its always been Hindi Cinema and always will be

You can have all the Baahubalis or Sairats or Robots but they’ll always be minor leagues 😆

There’s a reason those artists are the ones trying to break into Bollywood and not other way around

are you saying no content before

1950s and 60s had more content than now

best movies with good story was made

Yes, movies like Baahubali are far and apart...but point is Bollywood reaching 100cr biz is also a great feat which south movies also do regularly. Sairat success is not same as Robot's . There are many south big hits without even pan india release...South churns out equal number of box office numbers as BW inspite of less audience than BW.

Artists are not breaking into Bollywood, they are trying to get bigger audience and market when there is potential.

None of south stars ever said they want to be Bollywood stars.
