Top 5 highest grossing films of all time in India with its total box office collections :

  1. Bahubali 2: The Conclusion (Telugu) - 1115 Crores

  2. Bahubali: The Beginning (Telugu) - 418 Crores

  3. 2.0 (Tamil) - 413 Crores

  4. Dangal (Hindi) - 387 Crores

  5. Avengers: Endgame (English) - 367 Crores

Only Bollywood film in top 5 is Dangal which is in the fourth position.

Bollywood movies have the widest reach in India because of Hindi being the most known and spoken language in the country.

Even the box office figures of films from other film industries Bahubali, 2.0 and Endgame reached these mammoth collections because of being dubbed in Hindi.

So when dubbed movies from other languages are doing so well, why Bollywood movies in it's original language can't bring the same or more collections?

Easy to blame off-beat movies, saying Bollywood is only interested in making content driven cinema, but those type of movies are made in every industry.

Just like Bollywood also makes big budget extravaganzas, but they are not so good enough to match the collections of Bahubali, 2.0 or Endgame.

And what can be a bigger proof of Bollywood not knowing it's audience when the highest grossing film in Hindi is a dubbed movie?

Good question. Not sure but maybe Bollywood stopped making films with a repeat value a long time ago?

What is the last Bollywood film you’d say was rewatchable ?

one of the biggest reasons is BW producers are scary cats.

They can't release movies in non festival periods, which means they don't get as much screens as South movies like Bahubaali or 2.0.

A Dangal releases in Christmas/New Year when all big industries in South industry have their own major movies releasing by big stars. Same thing in Punjab/West Bengal and so on.

Now if Dangal makers or Aamir Mamu was brave enough to release it in say April, and it would be have gotten a huge share of screens in other regions than Hindi belt, the movie would have earned much more. Obviously Bahubaali2 numbers aren't something which we will get every year, it is one off megablockbuster alongside the likes of Sholay, MEA, Mother India and so on. But 500 scores is acheiveable, but not if BW stars/producers keep on releasing big movies with mass commercial potential in festival periods when every industry in the nation has their own regional biggies releasing

Lots of Ranbir and Ranveer movies (because I love them) so that doesn't count. Dangal I really enjoyed and other than that maybe Hera Pheri or the Munnabhai series?

Actually BW movies do not have that wide a reach. BW movies do well only in the Hindi speaking belt... not pan India.

The South part kind of... ignores Bollywood. At least that's the impression I got during my 7-8 months stay at Chennai. No multiplex nearby me screened any BW movies.... after a long search I found one mall (which was very far from my place) where BW movies were screened. But that also on just one screen. So most of the time it was housefull & I rarely got to secure tickets.😆 I remember this coz that was the most frustrating 7-8 months of my life😆

Weird. I've been in Chennai for a year and didn't experience this at all.

Yes obviously the number of screens is less considering not many Hindi speaking people live there. But Hindi movies definitely got screened and I got to watch a few of them there without any hassle.

That top 5 is off. Bahubali 1 &2 and 2.0 are totals for all India while Dangal is just for Hindi Box Office.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_India

Total Domestic Gross

  1. Bahubali 2
  2. 2.0
  3. Dangal
  4. Bahubali: The Beginning
  5. PK
  6. Endgame

Then the next 22 out of 25 are Hindi films, with the first 7 of those being all Hindi.

If you adjust for inflation or look at footfalls then Bahubali 2 is the only non Hindi film in the all time top 5
