And even if they were in a relationship, Anshuman never promised that he'll marry her. So it's totally on Geet if she was expecting commitment from him when he never committed. Is Geet a kid whom Anshuman should babysit? Running away from home was her own decision, which she made without even telling him. So she should be ready to face the consequences of her decisions as well.

Anshuman told Geet many times when she was in Shimla to go back home, but if she's not going back then what can he do? Why would he accept her if he doesn't love her?

Geet being a small town girl is not an excuse for her being naive and a complete idiot. If she fell in love with a guy who is outside her community, then she should be mature enough to face the consequences for it. But she was an immature girl who lived in her la la land.

Anshuman felt guilty for Geet's condition but there wasn't really any fault of him even if he considers himself at fault.

The relationship wasn't in Geet's mind.. Anshuman used to visit her hostel.. he knew Geet was in love with him and wanted to marry him.. if he wasn't serious or didn't want to marry her and knew about Geet's infatuation with him, he could have been straight with her from the get go and make it clear that there was going to be no wedding.. it's not like he didn't know Geet was serious about marrying him

Ensuring Geet's safety once he turned her down was his responsibility as a human.. not as a boyfriend.. but as a guy who knew that a girl was out there without any support.. yes, it was the girl's own decision but you knew this girl, was dating her at one point.. the least you could do is ensure that she was safe and sound.. that's like basic humanity

And in JTYJN, Aditi didn't mean Meghna was a ghalat girl.. she meant she was a wrong choice for Jai which was true.. Every girl would be a wrong choice for Jai because he was already in love

And Anshuman didn't return due to guilt but ego.. He realized that the clingy girl he had rebuffed is now moving on from him and had a richer better guy by her side now which pinched him

Geet was not ditzy. She was talkative naive yes but she was very smart also she knew how to avoid rishta using Aditya,she knew how to make him take her home. Even when alonenin a station she managed to be assertive and get her luggage prpblem solved. After beig left by Anshuman she didnt go back crying to her home she understood the weightage of her decision and did a job to get by and did the best she could in that situation.Later also she didnt settle for Anshuman and chose what she knew will make her happy. Having watched both versions of the movie (the term originated from this movie) back to back again recently, I cannot sit idly by and see that term being misused bcz I see that everywhere nowadays...(Just being dramatic 😊)

Gaslighting does not mean cheating or reneging on your promise, it’s more cruel and diabolical...

Gaslighting is abusive behaviour esp. when the abuser behaves in such a way as to make the victim question their own sanity...

No I totally disagree here...

As many have already said, it's made clear to the audience that Geet and Anshuman were indeed in a relationship at several different points in the film... so yeah, definitely not some crazy one sided crush from Geet.

Anshuman basically lead her on knowing that she was serious about him, when by he just wanted a casual fling... and as if that wasn't shitty enough, he suddenly dumped her after she left literally her whole life to be with him...

And then to top it all off, (after 9 whole months of not giving a shit about what could have happened to her), he suddenly decided he wanted to marry her now, because it looked like she may get together with someone much better than him...

And even after that he was placing all the responsibility on Geet (till the very last minute) to tell her family about everything that happened, despite the fact that he was the guilty party...

So to me, it's clear from all this that Anshuman was a flaky, cowarldly selfish, matlabi user.

Though on a fairly unrelated side note, does anyone else feel like Geet's close knit, caring family carrying on with life as normal, and not lodging so much as a police complaint when their beloved daughter has been missing for NINE WHOLE MONTHS was a terrible loophole in this (otherwise good) story??

It was mentioned that he used to come to the hostel to meet her, and she used to talk to him about what they'd do when they got married, etc. ...

What man would keep on making a point to meet with a girl who clearly wants to MARRY him, when he doesn't even like her?? And which girl for that matter would even say such things to a guy she's not dating??

Though I do accept just turning up at his office unannounced to inform him she's run away from home to marry him was something that would shock any guy, the way he reacted was just horrible. Since they were dating (for a while too from the sound of it) anyway he could have just married her... or at least got engaged and gone back to inform her family...

Then not caring to find out what happened to her in those 9 moths and pretending not to know her when Aditya asked about her was a final confirmation that he was a shitty person, to me at least.
