Most people have mortgages to pay, bills to pay and can’t afford to be that stress free. And honestly speaking, sometimes it’s a trade off. You either be a workaholic and get that new BMW car or you spend all your money ‘having fun’ and can’t always afford other luxuries. (For some that’s a car, for others it might be putting their kid through private school)

You can only take 6-month sabbatical if you are like Arjun (Hrithik) in that movie but even then 6 months is too much. No employer would let you leave for 6 months and then get straight into the work and even if you are starting your own business its not guarantee that it will be successful and the "vacation" could change your life for bad

Haha it is possible, most big companies will have a sabbatical policy. My friend at EY did it. Quit for a year, had that “i’m never working under someone, i’m gonna be my own boss and earn my own money” kinda attitude, didn’t work out and he went straight back at the end.😆

And it is always at manager’s discretion and looking at business need. Like mine states I have to work there for a minimum of 2 years before they consider.

The movie was made for rich indians. the 1%. the 1% that can afford to go to vacation to Europe. I mean didn't Farhan once say in his interview that Indians should take more vacations? literally. I mean these people are so out of touch. Also, Zoya sucks as a director.

Watch the original version made by Satyajit Ray.

ZNMD clearly failed to capture the essence of the original, though I love ZNMD as well.

What was the message? This is probably the only Abhay movie I have never bothered to watch, it just looks so pretentious.....right from the poster itself

To me the answer is, at least in the case of ZNMD, that you don't have to give up your career obviously. But in Hrithik's case it did seem like the wrong things were driving him- despite being the most successful, to me, he appeared to be the most insecure, which is something Katrina's character also picks up on. He seemed in awe of Abhay's wealth- and even implies Abhay is marring Kalki's character for money - also felt like he had a point to prove to Farhan's character after his girlfriend cheated on him. He's also shown as dissatisfied since his recent girlfriend dumped him for being a workaholic. I think the point is that there has to be a balance in life and even if you succeed in your career, that is only half the pie. Isnt that true in life?

i dont think he quits his job in the end, he just learns to appreciate personal relationships and live a fuller life and focus on what's important. You may have great success, but could still be a failure in your personal life.

Also, it's a film about rich people I guess. so in today's climate a film about travel and finding yourself might seem a little out of place hehe. And definitely does not apply to someone starting their career.

The point of the movie was to not get too engrossed in a certain thing and strike a balance. Obviously everything in the movie is flashy and can set unrealistic expectations about life in the mind of a young person.

If we speak of Hrithik's character in particular. The main problem of his character was that he was such a workaholic he didn't know how to relax and forgot to nurture the relationships in his life. The movie concludes with him taking a break with Laila and going on a trip to Morocco (after just having completed a dream holiday with his bros in Spain 😳).

The thing ZNMD is so extravagant, I think most ppl saw it as this already rich fictional character having the luxury to go on two back to back international holidays 🤔.

Real life is tough. As a 26 year old married, independant, working woman I can tell that for most of us every expenditure has to be well thought out. Splurging on things and poor financial management isn't an option when we have to plan for the future: be it having and raising a baby, buying one's own house, or taking care of parents with growing health complications. Before every holiday, we have to ponder how much it is taking out of the savings that we have to do for the things I mentioned above.

So even if you are on a holiday, there's always this thought at the back of your mind: are you doing enough? Are you working hard enough? Are you saving enough? Are you successful enough for your age and qualifications?

I don't remember the last time I felt completely carefree. I guess it's easy for ppl who don't want a family and are happy leading a hippie life. But for most of us, the older you grow the more ppl you have to care and worry about- and we cannot do without those ppl either.

I think most working adults try their best to strike the work-life balance. However, being carefree amd going on international holidays to party even once a year is a luxury reserved for the privileged few.

Most of us are just thankful having a support system around us in our day to day struggles.
