Is Alia darling of the masses, classes or neither?

Seeing Alia at No. 1 position in Ormax, I am tempted to write: Is she really that popular? I have not met anyone who is a fan of the actress in real life. Teenagers also have moved onto Sara and Ananya. So what is Alia's fan base? Is it the serious, cinema-loving audience who are critically aware(I know they prefer Kangana/Vidya). Is it the launde lapades( I know they prefer Disha/Shraddha). Is it the general population ( I know they prefer Deepika).

I am not generalizing, but I would really like to know how someone who completely lacks star power, aura and looks is ruling Bollywood. I would like to know whether her mediocre acting skills warrant this kind of attention.

Alia Bhatt totally justifies the term overrated. Everything about her is mediocre at best be it looks, acting chops , glamour quotient but she is being projected by the elite section of nepotistic Bollywood as an outstanding actor superstar which she is clearly not. Karan Johar is always doing his level best to shove her down our throats, and has succeeded to a great extent. So can her success be credited to Dharma? Would she even exist without Dharma?

Discuss.

I don't think she would ever have even come into films without Kjo/Dharma.... especially the way she was when she debuted... remember how awful she was in SOTY and Humpty Sharma??

As she is now she belongs in the same league as Bhoomi and Tapsee imo, as that's exactly where she is in terms of actual fan following and looks...though they are both more talented than her...

I agree completely. Bhoomi is much, much better than her. I reserve my opinions on Taapsee, I have always found her one-note and not versatile enough. In terms of fan following, I agree they are all on the same level.

Alia's only REALLY good performance is Udta Punjab. She was superb in it. However, in all her other movies she was average. Even Raazi, which I think worked because of the patriotic content and not because of Alia.

KJo is definetly shoving down her throats, but he wouldn't be if the audiences didn't love/like Alia back.

Also, how can you say that the audience doesn't love her?
Was a survey conducted?🤔 Where is this data coming from?

Because her social media page says otherwise. She has 47M followers on Instagram. Her "relationship" with Ranbir is always in the news. The audience still like to watch her.

Acting-wise, Alia has a long way to go but to say that she lacks star power or doesn't have screen presence would be a BIG understatement.

Ananya/Sara maybe 'preferred' by teenagers, but remember that both of them were heavily trolled by their teenager fans earlier this year.😆

Because social media is also not everything.

Disha Patni has 34M followers on insta🤓, and Kareena Kapoor has 2M.
But that doesn't make Disha a superstar or more significant star than Kareena.😆

That's because the era of "superstar heroines" ended in the 90s with Madhuri.

There is NO concept of no.1 anymore. All these ranking mean nothing since all actresses are doing their own thing and trying to create a name and place for themselves, rather than taking someone else's place, which is good.

Yes I agree that she was good in Udta Punjab... but average in all her other movies...

And Raazi would have been a huge success with almost any actress in it!

OK, leave aside social media. Has the audience really warmed up to Alia? I don't think so. Reason being, all her movies have worked on other factors(or not worked at all, which is a different matter altogether). Her pairing with Varun worked, I think lot of people liked their pairing, and hence those films worked. Raazi worked because of patriotic content. And the rest of her movies have all flopped. Even Taapsee Pannu has Mission Mangal and Pink. If we don't credit her for those films completely, we shouldn't credit Alia for her movies as well.

@bold

2 States was not a flop. Neither was Highway or Dear Zindagi or Kappor and Sons.

Also, if Varun-Alia "pairing" worked for Humpty and Badri, then shouldn't Alia be at least 50% credited for making it work.
OR should the credit go to Varun or Director only for making the pairing work?🤔

Also, I don't understand the logic why failure of films like Shandar or Kalank is placed on Alia only, (as if they were otherwise good films)

but when films like Gully boy do well, then Alia's contribution is neglected ??👎🏼

Also, Taapsee's work for films like is very well acknowledged and acclaimed. Just because a few trolls try to discredit Tapsee's films, doesn't mean same should be done for Alia.

Like I said, Alia has a long way to go as an actress BUT Alia's performance in Udta Punjab alone is enough to put her above than the likes of Ananya, Disha, Sara etc.

Oh definitely👍🏼 She is much better than them. But she's not the best. Her contemporary Parineeti is much better than her, IMO. But sadly underrated.

She is the flavor of the season. the problem with her is the she is a relatively good actress but is overrated. And she is a youth icon who will probably become less personable As she gets older since she uses her youth as a huge crutch factor. Her usp is being young.

Besides that. she has been promoted as a star, and as long as someone big in the industry is supporting and roots for you, you will become popular with the right opportunities and media attention. It’s unfair to say that the audience does not want to watch her and she is a way way better actress than ananya and disha. But people only want to watch her in good films.
metros, people like her and will go

Watch her. Masses, no. She is not an actress of the masses no matter how people try and say she is
