A day ahead of the release of Shahid Kapoorand Kiara Advani’s Kabir Singh, the film has begun screening in the Middle East, and reactions are arriving on social media. Those who have seen the film are praising Shahid Kapoor’s performance - some have even called it the best work he has ever done - but have compared the film unfavourably to the Telugu hit Arjun Reddy, upon which it is based.

“In #KabirSingh @shahidkapoor is menacing, not likeable. Angry. Visceral. So far the fine line between stylized and glorified is managed well by him & Vanga,” one person wrote. “What an outstanding performance Boss,” wrote another, referring to Shahid’s turn as a self-destructive medical student, who spirals out of control after a bad breakup.

Another person applauded the film’s unconventional story, and praised the second half, in which Kiara Advani’s role is better fleshed out. “Saw #KabirSingh at Censor Board ! What a BOMBASTIC Film ! @shahidkapoor Stole the Show all the way. What a Film !” wrote one person.

Kabir Singh Good Advance - Shadaa Huge Advance

Kabir Singh is looking at a strong opening as advance bookings have been good since counters opened on Sunday. The advance in terms of tickets sold could turn out to be higher than all the releases this year barring Bharat but the collections will be less as generally most of the films getting good advances were holiday release and had higher ticker rates.

The advances are good in the metros but it is the multiplexes of A and B centers where the advance is really coming from. The Nagpurs and Bhopals of the country are very good helped by the genre and the hit music. The film is on the lines of the films made by Vishesh Films (Bhatts) sometime back which were love stories with lust and / or angst topped with hit music and they generally did well. The difference being that Kabir Singh has far better productions values as those films were made with a thin budget and this should be reflected in the numbers.

Kabir Singh will open double or even treble the regular Shahid Kapoor film as its the genre and music doing the trick this time. Its very similar to what happened to Satyamev Jayate where the film opened far higher than any other film of John Abraham, this film may not go that as high as that film as it was a national holiday but the advances are better than that film.

The interesting thing will be the single screens as it has hit music and genre which appeals to them but a hero who does not, In the past the Bhatt films prevailed in the single screens and sometimes it was a lesser hero than Shahid Kapoor but times have changed now and that audience is difficult to get to the theaters now.

The Punjabi film Shadaa has taken a historic advance for Punjabi films. Normally Punjabi films dont open advance till Wednesday or Thursday but here it was opened on Sunday and it will be an al time record for Punjabi films till date. Punjabi films did take an advance around five or six years but at that time showcasing was poor and no where the level it is today where teh big Punjabi film is first choice with multiplexes of Punjab and even some cities of Haryana.

The advance of Shaada is three times of Kabir Singh at multiplexes of Punjab and Kabir Singh has a good advance. If we take a city like Ludhiana then the advance is four times Kabir Singh factoring in the collections outside multiplexes. Shadaa has sold around 2000 tickets apprx in the city while Kabir Singh is 500 apprx till end of business on Wednesday.

The advance in the cities of Punjab like Amritsar and Chandigarh is on par with biggest Hindi films like Thugs Of Hindostan and Bharat and its a non holiday release unlike those films. The film could be beating records of those films in the cities of Punjab and may well set a new opening record for Punjabi cinema depending on the footfalls that come on the day.
