It was a decent movie I believe I watched it in theater in the weekend. The film opens well and does pretty well until the point he goes back to army :

i think the reason it failed - one major big reason that his romance with PZ wasn't established that strongly for which the audiences would root for. The time she insults him, mocks and dejects him and then he feels motivated to go back and join the army was faulty because the romance had not been depicted so strong which audience could feel that yeah.

Instead of this scene, i wish they had shown the leading protagonist the aftermath of war, the death of the soldiers, that would hv been given a solid motivation but his motivation of joining back because of the dejection by his lover seems half backed and thts why its difficult to connect.

First half was boring. Second half was awesome. It seemed so mismatch. They would have edited a lot from first half.

The movie was atleast 20 mins longer than it should be. If it was crisp and to the point it would have clicked. Its still one of the best movies of Farhan. The honesty with which he made it shone through.

This film may hv been a BO failure but it led to 20% increase in youth joining Army. Even today, it is known as the Best and Realistic depiction of Army by so many soldiers. Have seen so many persons saying they joined Army after watching Lakshya. It is a Cult coming of age classic for every confused youngster looking for direction in their life.

Why it failed? Maybe bcoz the trailer was average and audience back then were not used to seeing War films that were not loud and full of Anti Pak rhetoric.

It’s one of my most favorite movies...PZ’s role is a bit irksome but other than that the movie is a classic!

I agree whole heartedly : It was promoted as a love story cum war film : PZ was in all the promotional posters/banners/materials signifying the love angle of HRITHIK..

but it was damn boring in the film, not only PZ looked weird in the first half with that bizarre hairstyle, she didn't have any sort of chemistry with HR.

Although she was good in the other half when she goes about covering the war and all but even then her scenes with HR do not click. Had this movie got a better love angle it would hv worked..it was a tire-some experience. Yet, its one of the better films of Farhan A.

I like the movie.

The issue I feel with the movie is -- when the war breaks out, some of the scenes were too repetitive & long. They could have cut down at least 20-30 minutes of movie.

Other that that, movie is awesome. Screenplay is really well directed. HR acted well too. Especially in army training scenes & all serious scenes.

It is a fact, Heartburn. Lakshya Factor was a term in IMA. Infact, even Vicky Kaushal said during Uri promotions that he met Soldiers in Kashmir who said they joined Army after watching Lakshya. Go to the Title song or the Oath taking ceremony or even social media, u will see so many Army guys saying the same. Come out of the well. Ignorance at its peak smiley8
