Kalank is not as bad as it is made out to be

I have watched the movie yesterday and it was a good one time watch, the songs esp the title track and tabah hogaye suits the narrative very well. The actors did a good job too. It was majorly the screenplay and lack of depth in the lead characters of Zafar and Roop. In fact, there is a point where as an audience you will be sad for everyone, be it a dying Satya, a loving husband Dev who lost his dear wife, be it a helpless and selfish but guilty and bruised Bahaar begum but neither for Zafar (who is an illegitimate kid and has faced worst as a human being) nor for Roop ( who is just selfish and stubborn).

Satya, Dev and Bahaar begum had to be the best ones at least for me and more because the actors did a pretty good job. Those who criticized Madhuri to be a 50 year old and flop and what not should watch her here, she does a wonderful job in the amount of screen time she was given. Her scenes with both Alia and Varun were some of the best moments of the movie especially with Varun. Tabaah hogaye was also not as bad as it was made out to be, she dance so well in the song, it is unfair that her efforts as a great dancer was also made fun of.

Coming to the characters that i liked the most were Satya and Dev, only if Johar was not biased and would not dedicate almost 70 percent of the screenplay to the mindless love story of Zafar and Roop in Heera mandi, we could have watched more of this subtle and heart warming love story between Dev and Satya. They have very few scenes together as most of the ARK scenes are with Alia again but still Sonakshi's cameo made the movie so much better. She should sign for such characters more instead of mindless prabhu dev action flicks. ARK is such a looker, infact the best looking actor of the whole cast and his character is much more balanced and well written than the leads, he also delivers a good performance and has a great chemistry with both Alia and Sonakshi.

The reasons why this movie failed was the plot, wafer thin and seemed like an Ekta kapoor serial TBH. Why would Roop fall in love with an arrogant and annoying Zafar in Heera Mandi when she had someone like Dev who was actually helping her to grow as a journalist and also gave her all the rights of his wife, in fact Dev's father was a caring FIL to Roop, did not stop her from seeking music from Bahaar begum even after the history he has with Bahaar. Even after all this she falls for Zafar within a week or something, god knows for what reason, they did not even build up the love story properly to make the audience mourn over the tragic climax. Both Varun and Alia looked disinterested, especially Alia, Varun tried to be convincing but could not rise above the mediocre script.

In all this my heart aches for ARK and Sonakshi. So much unused potential in them it hurts to even say it!

I dont know about Zero as i did not watch it and will not watch it as SRK is cringeworthy onscreen, but both Race 3 and TOH were comedies in disguise 🤣🤣 .. And whoever praised Rcae 3 even after seeing both Salman and Bobby's boobs, I just want to salute that person for having such a big heart 😆..

If only they had focused more on Satya and Dev's character.

Alia was unbearable in some scenes and the movie rightly deserved to flop just because of KJo trying to potray her like some ultimate diva. What were they thinking......

The movie itself is absolutely unjustified. Last time I felt this was while watching KANK.

Alia and her lehengas were interrupting whereas seems like the main lead couples were confusing about their characters. ARK was perfect and given the best shot in the movie. It's actually a one time watch with good songs. But tbh I think Alia completely ruined the movie as the 50% of the screen space was shared by her only.

Hope now kjo take a lesson and stop casting Alia for his future projects.

Sorry but this line: someone like Dev who was actually helping her to grow as a journalist and also gave her all the rights of his wife

Maybe Dev was helping her grow as a journalist (though how much she was really interested about that I don't know) but he made it clear from the beginning that there would be izzat in the relationship and not love. He only really gave rights to her as a wife after Satya died. Plus I don't think just because he's a righteous man she should have fallen in love with him and I have heard that love has no reason. Agree the love story seemed rush the only build up was in the title track which looks like her admiring him and then by the end of the song you can see some strong connection has built between them (when madhuri seems them).

In all I agree the movie wasn't so bad I also think audiences in India are less forgiving here in the UK the movie did well.

I agree with you..

I went it 0 expectations but I still kinda liked the film but you can't deny the minuses the plague the film.

Varun sleeps with every woman in the city even has a gf kiara whom he sleeps with every night. But when he falls in love with Alia the intimacy (wait not saying he should hv slept with her) is clearly missing..there's only scene where he tries to kiss n then backs off..the biggest problem is their love story do not BLOSSOM...by the time Varun's revenge plan gets revealed, they already reach the climax..now the climax was good no doubt..but when ur leading couple fails to bring the romance alive even the audiences shall not like it...Even though they showed Alia at the end surrendering her soul totally to Dhawan, it just does not move u...because urmm..where was the romance dude?

I liked MAdhuri's part too, it wasn't really that great but still enjoyable. Sanjay Dutt was in his character. Aditya was good and Sonakshi was totally wasted.

The scene stealer of the film however, is kunal khemu without a doubt..its really a shame that he wasn't promoted for this venture where he should really have...

and the biggest spoilsport of kalank is the length..it just could do a lot better in 2 hours max..

Kjo could have directed this film better acc 2 me than varman

Right?

And okay.. not as bad is also a personal opinion... Some might have liked Zero.. some Race .. some TOH. some Kalank.

Everyone can like some movies that are generally panned.

But that does not mean that the majority agrees with them.
