Another case of perception not matching reality is if people didn’t research they would have no freaking clue that Sunny’s Gadar was the baahubali of its time, yet Lagaan which was released on the same day, was simply a hit but is considered the more iconic film and more “successful” due to the Oscar nomination. 🤷‍♂️

Exactly, that fact does make it look like a cult movie...... which was also my perception till now.......hence the title......@ red : woah.......this is news to me........i did know that Gadar did well........but bahubali of its time, makes the success more clear......and yes, for laymens like me, we would've never known this fact....

Why did Salman not have a movie lik TZP?/CD/RDB

Why did Amir not have a movie like DDLJ/Wanted/Sultan

Why did Shah not have a movie like Dangal/ Wanted/RDB

Because there is only so many movies one can do.. Shah has done better movies than DDLJ but since people idolize him as the ultimate romantic hero, DDLJ is considered to be one of his most iconic movies

Salman has done plenty of romantic movies but since people consider him the ultimate massy hero, his masala movies are considered more iconic like Dabag

Aamir has done both masala and romantic but is best remembered for his intellectual (for the lack of a better word) movies..

HAHK is a bigger hit but more than YRF, its the promotion of DDLJ at every platform/movie/drama/actors that gives it its iconic status...

Each one of them have a specific type of roles they are best remembered for and thus the respective movies are more talked about

LOLAditya is the mastermind though. His father ghost directed his movies but Adi directed a fairytale and made YRF a force to reckon with. Before him YRF was a respectable PH with few hits and lots of goodwill. Adi and Uday made it a formidable force. Karan desperately tries to emulate that.

SRK knew the value of perception and stardom before the other two so cultivated and marketed an image quite early and built an empire from scratch. So along with YRF Adi/Uday.. SRK should also be credited for DDLJ's iconic status.

Its not just about the perception.. Pick up any drama.. It talks about being the Raj of DDLJ when talking about romance.. Any actor is asked his fav romantic movie, TV or BW, more often than not its DDLJ.. There is no denying that HAHK is a bigger hit but DDLJ is considered iconic because of the reach it has.. Shah became a huge name because of DDLJ and vice versa..

HAHK was a family drama. DDLJ was a romantic movie (for the large part) so yeah even the genre helped DDLJ gain an edge. But perception ka khel toh hain. Something perceived to be good generally ends up being believed to be good.

DDLJ is not perceived to be good though.. Its actually good.. it became iconic later but has been good from pretty much the beginning ;p
