Let's be honest, SLB will never consider Alia in his period films.

Lmao this reminds of Pinga. 😆 When that song released, people on sms were talking how Deepu was jumping awkwardly đŸ€Ł

Kjo always wanted to do this but didn't had the finance.

They might not be best at BO - Jodhaa maybe, but Ram-Leela did great, right?- but they are always mentioned as good period type movies.
In a way I'd say it still is about that for KJo- about how period drama/historicals can or cannot make money. So he IS a badwagoner, in that sense. Only now, after he saw historicals that MADE money, did he decide to take these projects on.

Because even if he had the idea to make the movie BEFORE these movies releasing. he still considered it too risky at the time .. or not beneficial enough. Thus, he shelved the project for years.

I think when he saw how Bajirao.. then Padmavaat became such a success , he decided it's worth him investing the money into a historical .. or 3.😆

Even in these.. he is co-producing with others..so he's still making sure he's not taking all the risks on himself.
Historicals are a sinkhole for money- as you ned great costumes and action scenes, besides good script and actors./.. in order to make the movie click with audiences and succeed at BO. So maybe he wasn't sure either that he can create a great story.. or direct/produce a good one... or maybe he simply didn't think cost vs. profit was attractive enough.. before.

Well like he's said several times, she's his "first child" đŸ„± It's still very creepy though...

Karan has said it several times that he's running a business and wants to make only commercial films because they bring money. đŸ„±

He also said that no one wanted to make historical movies before because they thought they won't work financially and were already anticipating for a flop.

So yeah it's very obvious that Karan saw how SLB changed that notion with Devdas, BM and Padmaavat. Now he knows for sure that historicals bring in lots of money so he can safely make investments in these films.

Basically, he didn't want to take any risks and just wanted to keep on making his 2 dimensional shitty love stories as long as they brought him money.

Contrary to what everyone is saying here, SLB's first period film was Devdas (2002). I think everyone forgot about that 😆😆

There were many historical movies made before that. Most popular among them is of course K Asif's Mughal-e-Azam.

But in recent times, historical movies have been popularised by SLB. Gowariker made one historical in 2008 which wasn't a big hit like BM and Padmaavat.

That reminded me ...just caught padmavat on tv 2 days ago and it was so mediocre that i was surprised and couldn't believe my eyes. Deepika and shahid scenes were unbearable specially shahid and what was that cartoonish set of all the deer hunting and caves đŸ‘ŽđŸŒ ...deepika looked horrendous in front of aditi rao hydari considering she was supposed to be eternal beauty...ranveer played a joker once he became king and to top it all what was that rajputs this ...rajputs that all the time đŸ˜Č😆

@WannabeAmbani Exactly, Ram Leela isn't a historical film. It even had smart phones and selfies đŸ€Ł

SLB's first period drama (not historical) was Devdas. Everyone forgot about that 😆😆

Firstly, Jodha Akbar was a Gamechanger in Bollywood. It was a Critical and Commercial Success by all angles and went on to sweep all the awards that year. Including International ones.

Infact, its Success and Critical acclaim led to SLB trying Period films involving Royalty.

Until then, films like Lagaan, Gadar or Devdas were made which were around Partition time. But, nobody had tried making films of far earlier era like Mughal-e-Azam successfully. Bcoz they never worked at BO. Asoka was a big failure.

Takht is Jodha Akbar n SLB type of Period film. Kalank seems to be more like Partition era film like Gadar. So, both are very different.

Yes, Karan Johar told in his interview that he wants to be respected as a Filmmaker like SLB, Ashutosh or Rajamouli are. And I think he feels that they get respected more bcoz of their Magnum Opus set ups. So, he is trying to do the same. I dont see anything wrong with it.
