Their poster being similar is not gonna answer my question.
Plus Kalank was actually pitched to Ajay in 2005 too.
Kjo always wanted to do this but didn't had the finance.
Firstly, Jodha Akbar was a Gamechanger in Bollywood. It was a Critical and Commercial Success by all angles and went on to sweep all the awards that year. Including International ones.
Infact, its Success and Critical acclaim led to SLB trying Period films involving Royalty.
Until then, films like Lagaan, Gadar or Devdas were made which were around Partition time. But, nobody had tried making films of far earlier era like Mughal-e-Azam successfully. Bcoz they never worked at BO. Asoka was a big failure.
Takht is Jodha Akbar n SLB type of Period film. Kalank seems to be more like Partition era film like Gadar. So, both are very different.
Yes, Karan Johar told in his interview that he wants to be respected as a Filmmaker like SLB, Ashutosh or Rajamouli are. And I think he feels that they get respected more bcoz of their Magnum Opus set ups. So, he is trying to do the same. I dont see anything wrong with it.
