Film has massive soundtrack and extravagant videos for them. Pritam returning after 18 months. Alia's Solo songs shot in Gwalior fort and Varun intro features 1000 dancers and is costliest song shot in Bollywood.

Film could spark some controversy due to the current scenario between India-Pak issues. Story is set between major cities Delhi and Lahore. With strong portions having Heera Mandi setting. It is a pre-partition story. Has Hindu-Muslim angle too. Most of the plot revolves around Varun's character as he termed Kalank in the film. Madhuri plays a courtesan and Alia is one of her muse despite some claim she plays ARK's wife and Sanjay Dutt's daughter. Sonakshi is a poet but also claimed to be playing an immigrant. Quiet unsure of her role.

Film begins 15 min fight scenes featuring Varun and has an emotional ending scene. Varun shot the film for longest followed by Alia, then ARK. Kiara Advani has a cameo and features in Varun's intro song. Kriti Sanon has an item song with Varun and ARK. A romantic song and portions were shot in Kargil featuring Varun and Alia.

Beside 6 main lead, film features Hiten Tejwani, Kunal Khemu, Sharman Joshi, Meera Chopra and Mukesh Rishi who is returning intk mainstream Bollywood film after ages.
