Kriti Sanon on being an outsider in the industry

Making her Bollywood debut in 2014 with Heropanti, actress Kriti Sanon has come a long way. Her last film Bareilly Ki Barfi did establish her as an actress you can bet your money on and this year, the actress has five films lined up for releases including Luka Chuppi that hits the theatre next week.

When asked if she still feels being an outsider, Kriti says she feels a part of the industry to a large extent. "At times when I am around all of them (people from film industry), I do have to pretend to be fiddling with my mobile. This I have to do to pretend to be busy but the matter of fact isI feel like an outsider at times. There are certain barriers yet to be broken, says Kriti who is happy with her film journey until this day. However, she is yet to work with some brilliant directors and she finds reaching them slightly tougher when you aren't from a filmy background.

"Director who comes in our life and takes a performance which will surprise everyone. Since you hail from a non-filmy background, it takes time for them to know you. Also, at times you need to prove your mettle through certain numbers of hits at the box office, she says.

When asked about gender disparity in the industry, the actress says, "Yes, I feel disparity does exist. I have not faced discrimination as far as gender is concerned and film industry is also changing in terms of writing better roles for women or writing scripts with having a woman in mind as the main protagonist of certain films and they are being received well. However, there does exist a little bit of disparity in the remuneration of a female actresses in comparison to men.

Talking about the industry and if behaviour changes every Friday, the actress says, "Some people are genuine, they don't change and their attitude remains the same. But there are poeple who change with your success or failures. It's very superficial but when you are successful, the attitude of people towards you changes. They become way more friendlier but when you are not doing so well, they may be friendly on your face but the little difference that exists, you can note it.
