Because Alia is not versatile..You have to excel at least in two genres - drama, comedy, slice of life, horror, thriller, action etc etc. She has only done one kinda role. In GB also she seems hitting the same note as she has been doing for last couple of years.

Another point to add is Razi had a story which was very gripping. I am not saying patriotism formula etc but the story was meant to connect. She was smart to pick that up and she was good in many portions. But as soon as she starts doing emotional bit I loose the connection with her. Its the same Alia in Badri just wearing a saree and nose ring .

Alia was really good in Highway, I was impressed with the range of emotions she displayed
She was also good in 2nd half of Dear Zindagi when she breaks down recollecting her childhood, the feelings of abandonment when her parents left her at her grandparents home

But she couldnt nail the part of the tortured and abused Bihari laborer girl in UP, nope she didnt have the maturity to portray the trauma.
In Raazi she was good, she competently acted the role of Sehmat till the climax, that breaking down scene at the end ruined it all, she didnt have the emotional maturity to express those feelings
The other roles she did with Varun were all fluff and confectionary. In fact Varun bested her in BKD

She still has age by her side. I find her brilliant. Talent is Talent.

Alia's Veera was amazing. It needed the raw energy and innocence..sure it wasnt the most nuanced or flawless performance in the world..but somewhere that imperfection was required for the role itself..of a high society girl being safer with her kidnapper than her own family members ...Highway will always be in my personal top 5 list of this decade..and I wish Randeep Hooda got as much credit too..Mahavir and Veera are the most unconventional and soulful companions I have ever seen on celluloid..
and apart from that..Alia cannot do glam roles and I am unsure of her performance in Takht as a period drama actress, but apart from that..she is quite good and blessed with tons of screen presence and good acting chops..and one thing she doesnt get enough credit for is the chemistry she shares with her co-actors..barring Sid Mal, she looked amazing with everyone including Arjun.

She is a good actress but i agree she has sort of similar expressions which get boring over time. Ranbir is another example with the same problem. It feels the same old same old at some point

Mandatory melt down with high pitch squeeky shouting, ott nostril-flaring breakdowns while playing duniya/family ki satayi dukhiyari, bechari character pretty much summarizes "Desi Meryl Streep'" acting range😆

Heck even in that 10 minutes role in K&S it was made sure that a random breakdown scene gets incorporated since that's what Alia is comfortable in. I find her pretty much unbearable with her fixed set of frowning & flaring expressions, exception being Badrinath ki Dulhania where she was blank & acted like a frozen turky in half of the film😆

I dont think she is untalented but just very highly overrated as an actress. I remember when the whole industry was praising her after Highway, indian Meryl Streep etc etc, but when I watched Highway I was like... oh ok, she's decent, but nothing mind blowing (like Kangana was in TWM2, I walked away believing that Kusum and Tanu looked and FELT different, It didn't feel like the same actor Kangana was playing the 2 different characters). Granted it's unfair to compare Alia to kangana but none of Alia's performances really stood out to me. It just feels like she's playing Alia in all of them. Haven't seen Udta Punjab so that may be different tho.
