I felt the same with the revival of the masala movie genre. I am sure we can agree that taste is subjective. However, despite all the moolah it made a Dhoom 3 or a Ready would never make it any reasonable Bolly fans top 100. A swades and Chak de would.

I think thats the yard stick that i would use.

Well, back to the topic

Although we don't really k n o w how SRK is working on a movie (I tend to not take serious some of his answers or assertions), I also believe that he has to change something that maybe has become a 'bad' habit.

We will see...he has a lot of potential. Still something to better or to explore.

Again, agreed: there's new actors every year and they are all hungry for success and willa ccept roles for much smaller pay.. thus budgets in their movies are also smaller... but IF they connect to audience.. they go become Huge Hit.

Yes you can say SRK was lucky because he did have less competition but I am not sure if there were other potential greats that the Khans ..made insignificant/smaller by hogging all good roles(?) or there was just not a big influx of actors to take over the roles or the previous greats( I mean the ones before the Khans).
I do know that Akki, Ajay, Hrithik gave them competition but there were still a small amount of big stars, so there was enough space for all.. nowadays it's getting crowded...
And yes.. SRK is intelligent and has a quick mind /wit . It's that mind that he should maybe use to asses the current situation, without believing hypes or 'yes men' and see what can be changed.

Firstly, His complexion, look, skin color, that beetle-nut in throat , height,.. nthg is / was good for this heroic professional area, as a minimal requirement ... but I truly praise his challenge taking caliber,... to make it ( stardom ) worthy for him, for that stage of silver-screen and world of glow-gloss-glory-glamour with his mere will-power, hard-work, dedication and talent,... ( using those, at its best to overshine all of his other draw-backs ) and proving everyone wrong,... Salute to that Jigra, no doubt,..

To answer yr point,.. I think it's losing stardom fear, less money, losing public hold and place in heart ( especially among young girls generations ) a little,.. by side-lining that they are afraid of,... Big B after his last star young role in Suryavansham knew it, that no more now for that kinda youngie-star roles - that era is over,.. But he had no problem , as be it Sarkar, Black, Budha hoga tera baap, TOH,.. he can come back equally nad roar in older characters too,.. ! Vinod khana did in dabanng and dilwaale,.. not so efficient though,... and imo,... srk, salman will also not be that efficient, to keep their spot by doing those roles either, per their height and body structure ( they may not look good e.g. old SRK in Veer-zhaara )

Also a time has come, new generation is on the road and they love their youngies, like Varun, Sidharth, aaditya, alia, Tiger, shradhdha , Kirti and such,... so who knows how far Varun / Kirti had their roles to help making the budget of Dilwale,..

Yess ,...SRK had competition with Saifu, Hrithik , ajay, Sanju, akki,... but his own patent in loving romance with that smile and hand-opening,.. that no-one had,... so he kept up with that his monopoly, and Lucky him that Dharma and YRF ( just like Big b got a good tie-in with Rishida, Praksh mehra and Manmohan desai ) covered him a lot with good good-sangeet, dance-stage- marriage dressings, family-life woven stories of shaadiyaan,... Song lyrics, scene-sceneries,..,.. Etc ) My point was, if SRK was in Rajesh or Shashi like's romantic era,... He would had faced lot stronger competition as those guys marveled it,... and saifu, ajay, akki, hrithik,. No one had that heart-touching romance styles,.

Nonetheless,.. no matter,.. one may say him Pakistani, ugly, kekda, or what not,. I heartily salute that caliber, jigra and will-power, that he made himself established as a king khan, while proving me, Kajol, and others , all wrong.. Salute to this guy. Also, hope , if not Politics or building Religious places,.. but at least he gets himself involved in Hospitals-makings, good-cause Charity, h/c Kids donations, National Charities, Jawaans/ martyrs' family charities and other such good deeds,... ( he's lagging at these, a lot ) God bless him,..

Bottomline is ,,he is a very good actor and even though he is known as king of romance, more than that, I feel he has impacted in other type roles.

For any script to work, audience should be able to see themselves with the protagonist. Whether he is a multi billionaire, or a coolie, if the character's vulnerability connects with a common man, it gets hit.

Sharukh's earlier characters had that connection with Indian junta (He might be a Khan, but his popular character has always been Rahul).

Chak De was a offbeat lim, a film with no female lead or dance. The character Kabir Khan's trouble is not felt by majority of the audience. Sharukh made it a hit, because he was in his prime. But MNIK took the theme too far. Audience could not connect to Rizwan Khan at all. It flopped.

In recent years, it is getting more and more difficult for the common people to associate with the character that he plays. Take for example Gaurav in Fan. No fan of any star can connect himself with such an obsessive fan like Gaurav. I have not watched Zero. Was anyone able to connect with Sharukh's character there?

Raees was not exactly a family drama. Violence, Sunny Leone item song, all kept family audience out from the trailer itself. Even Harry Met Sejal. SRK's (All Khan's) target audience are not teen agers. They are mainly family audience. A trailer which is not family friendly is immediately ticked off. Indemnity bond trailer made sure, his target audience will not go to the theatre.

Second thing is the budget of the movie. Sharukh even today delivers his first day better than young stars. Even if his movie collapses in the first week itself, it will come nearing 100 crores. But problem is, despite that it becomes flop. Reason is budget. May be he earns through his studio which made the VFX of the movie. (But I don't know who would pay, if he himself is the producer).

Also the price at which film is sold to distributors. If Manikarnika earns 90 crores, it will be considered a superhit, as it was sold to distributors at 65 crores. But Khans movies are always sold at a much higher price. Hence they show losses.
