Well obviously. If someone tries to suck up to you, it's the other side's job to stop it. It's not just one side at fault. The atmosphere itself is corrupt and unethical.
The whole point of inviting media/critics to a wedding reception is try to form friendships and bonds which then become useful to you in the future. Feed them, suck up, make them feel good and form relationships. Of course they are going to be nicer to you than to someone else who they don't have those relationships with.
Similarly, going to someone's movie trial and dancing and kissing the actor and director and celebrating with them before you write a review shows where your loyalty lies. This would never happen in other countries. This is not normal.
It's simple ethics. It's the same way a restaurant owner shouldn't be giving free dinner to a cop (and the cop should not be accepting it even if offered) in their patrol area. Obviously they are going to protect that restaurant more than others because they've getting something from there and have started forming attachments. It's amazing that this even needs to be explained. 😆
