I think people were curious about the film so people watched it but maybe most did not like it. Some may have watched it to see RK despite the whitewashing.

I never watched it and dont plan to ever, so cant say.
I find Hirani a shitty fil maker. His movies are like public service announcements...pravachan in some jagran style. So i dont watch them.

And then the whole whitewashing thing which is against my principles.

Honestly Sanju wasn't a well made movie. It was jumbled up and messy.

Other than RK transformation as sanjay nothing about him was good. Half the time he was acting like he was still stuck in Barfi phase and the other half he was acting like he was mentally challenged. Nowhere in the movie did he made me feel like he was actually struggling from substance abuse.

How that movie made so much money is still shocking but then many rubbish movies make a lot of money so...

This. People on this forum and Bollywood has put him on pedestals. He's not that great of an actor... he's just an average to the say least.

I thought Ranbir was good, but it wasn't anything so spectacular. And sometimes his looks as Sanju was hit and miss. And yeah, it was so whitewashed to make Sanjay look like "poor me" 🤢

In that case even Sadak of sanju had more footfalls than all these movies, so what? Times change and footfalls decrease, it's the time of Netflix and TV premieres. Moreover how can you compare Christmas releases to a July release? 😕

On topic I watched the movie and for the most part I liked it. It has horribly whitewashed Sanjay's character and as Mahesh Bhatt recently said it's not the actual Sanjay Dutt at all. Its a dishonest portrayal. Anyway, Ranbir wasn't bad in it but if it was someone else other than Sanjay I dont think would be interested in the story. Public want to see the scandalous stories. But more than anything else, the lack of appreciation for Paresh Rawal is something that's bothering me. His Sunil Dutt was wonderful without caricature . I really loved it. Sanjay was lucky to have a father like that. He didn't deserve him.

He didn't call it dishonest, brush up your comprehension skills, he said he didn't relate, he never used the words whitewash, people like you know nothing, and just imagine whatever crap you want and say it.

Maybe people with perception and comprehension issues should read this

I can only hope his life now imitates Munnabhai'

All I could say to anyone who would listen was, Sanju could have done something foolish, he's very capable of being an idiot, but he can't be a criminal. He can't possibly have had knowledge about the serial blasts. There were those who made big of the fact that the gun he was said to have asked to be destroyed had in fact been found. To them I would say that I am willing to concede that he may have taken a gun from paranoia, or from some Rambo-like attitude that comes out of his delinquent mind. But if you're suggesting he was waging war against the nation, committing heinous treason, planting rdx to kill innocent people over my dead body. That is not Sanjay Dutt, not a cell of his could have had anything remotely to do with a deed like this.

This was a few days before he was released. What I saw was heartbreaking his hair was much longer, he was unshaven. He had a lot of malas around his neck. I was told he had become very religious. I felt terribly guilty, it was the guilt of a survivor for just being alive after a catastrophe. He understood that. He had come to terms with his state.

Sanjay Dutt is a simple person, he has an endearing core, he is a generous man. Audiences have the capacity to see that. And the people of the nation have the intelligence and the intuitive capacity to gauge that this man could not possibly have been the architect of the blasts. Let's be very clear: Sanju is only accused of being in possession of arms, which is something that has to be proved in the court of law. His audience doesn't find what he has been accused of to be so terrible a crime. Nor do I think that the common man is blind to the truth of what Mumbai was in those days.

You look at him and you feel like hugging him, you feel like whacking him on the head and hugging him again. He evokes nothing but warmth. He's a friend who's stood by me and I'd stand by him.

Saw 5 minutes of it and turned it off. It was that intolerable. Never been a fan of Hirani's films so I blame it on him.
