Honestly Sanju wasn't a well made movie. It was jumbled up and messy.
Other than RK transformation as sanjay nothing about him was good. Half the time he was acting like he was still stuck in Barfi phase and the other half he was acting like he was mentally challenged. Nowhere in the movie did he made me feel like he was actually struggling from substance abuse. How that movie made so much money is still shocking but then many rubbish movies make a lot of money so...

On topic I watched the movie and for the most part I liked it. It has horribly whitewashed Sanjay's character and as Mahesh Bhatt recently said it's not the actual Sanjay Dutt at all. Its a dishonest portrayal. Anyway, Ranbir wasn't bad in it but if it was someone else other than Sanjay I dont think would be interested in the story. Public want to see the scandalous stories. But more than anything else, the lack of appreciation for Paresh Rawal is something that's bothering me. His Sunil Dutt was wonderful without caricature . I really loved it. Sanjay was lucky to have a father like that. He didn't deserve him.
This was a few days before he was released. What I saw was heartbreaking his hair was much longer, he was unshaven. He had a lot of malas around his neck. I was told he had become very religious. I felt terribly guilty, it was the guilt of a survivor for just being alive after a catastrophe. He understood that. He had come to terms with his state.
Sanjay Dutt is a simple person, he has an endearing core, he is a generous man. Audiences have the capacity to see that. And the people of the nation have the intelligence and the intuitive capacity to gauge that this man could not possibly have been the architect of the blasts. Let's be very clear: Sanju is only accused of being in possession of arms, which is something that has to be proved in the court of law. His audience doesn't find what he has been accused of to be so terrible a crime. Nor do I think that the common man is blind to the truth of what Mumbai was in those days.
You look at him and you feel like hugging him, you feel like whacking him on the head and hugging him again. He evokes nothing but warmth. He's a friend who's stood by me and I'd stand by him.
