This movie (Samadhi) I guess is more known for the famous (or should I say, infamous) Kaanta laga, but this is such a fun song, and it staggers me how similar it is to "Koi ladki mujhe kal raat sapne mein mili"! Amitabh is a total "sadu" all through this movie - always wondered why he gets these kind of roles in all Yash Chopra films and Shashi has the more positive, exuberant role. This is a beautiful song though, with the differing points of view. Shashi and Hema have found love and everything is rosy, so that's what they present but Amitabh is a hardened cynic - so it's not easy for him to accept that love can make the world go round. He keeps reiterating "ye bekaar bedaam ki cheez hai" while the pair try to convince him that "mohabbat bade kaam ki cheez hai" while Rakhee looks on in hope and longing.

Lyricist Majrooh came in for a lot of flak for penning this song. Music is by Ravi and Kishore and Asha have fun with the English lyrics, though at times it's quite challenging keeping with the meter, particularly C.R.O.W Crow! 😆 Just watch Kishoreda's madcap dancing in the interludes 😆. Kishore Kumar's only outing with Nutan (as far as I know) and they seem to be having a blast!

I ADORE Mannada, but because it's Dev on screen - somehow I can't help but feel this song would be better suited for Rafi.
