Shweta Bachchan brand accused of plagiarism days after launch

It has not even been a day Shweta Bachchan Nanda launched her fashion line in association with designer Monisha Jaising, and the brand has already been accused of plagiarism.

The brand, MXS, was launched with much fanfare on September 1. Ahead of the launch, Shweta's father Amitabh Bachchan and brother Abhishek took to social media to share photos of themselves in a hoodie from the clothing line. And social media couldn't help noticing the similarities in the font used on the hoodie.

The hoodie has the words 'Girl Power' scrawled across it. The font, incidentally, is almost the same as that in the famous cartoon show, Powerpuff Girls.

That was not all.

An Instagram account dedicated to 'Reading copycats for filth!' pointed out another design from Shweta Bachchan's newly-launched brand that too seems to have been copied from a lesser-known American brand.

"When you google 'Airplane Mode Sweatshirt' - the first search that pops-up is a little known loungewear brand called, @tlroom. The brand retails out of @nordstromnyc, and is known for its cool girl vibe, comfy sweats and chill silhouettes. And, now @monishajaising and @shwetabachchan's new brand - @mxsworld - has the same sweatshirt with the exact same slogan. So, who do we blame the mess on?" the account captioned a collage of the two sweatshirts.

The launch of MXS's first store in Mumbaisaw a stream of visitors from the Ambanis - Nita, Tina and Isha - to Bollywood biggies. Amitabh Bachchan also took to social media to say, "The daughter launches her fashion brand and a Father cannot be more proud .. within a couple of hours everything was SOLD OUT .. !! (sic)"
